Universal Orlando announces price hike due in part to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter

Universal Orlando has upped its daily admission rate up to a whopping $75, from $71, due in part to their commitment to the gigantic Wizarding World of Harry Potter and a new roller coaster.

Honestly, I don’t see this as a big deal AT ALL. I am more than willing to pay $75 for the privilege of walking through a real live Hogwarts (not really real, but you know what I mean) and seeing all my Harry Potter imagery come to life. How about you? Do you feel the same way, or do you think they’re just out to gouge people?

Yes, it may be partially due to the Harry Potter theme park, but it’s mostly due to economics. Walt Disney World went from $71 to $75 this week as well. The theory behind these is that, with the economy not being so hot, people aren’t really going to “vacation”, but are going to go to a destination – for example, instead of driving around Florida, they’ll go to a certain spot and stay there for a week. Like Disney, or Universal Orlando.

I also heard that Disney’s theory of price raising is to raise the prices in small increments continually until they have a 10% decrease in admission, but don’t hold me to that.

Economics. In order to bring such a real-life amusement to the public, someone has to foot the bill. It takes many people to run such a resort and you would be surprised how much of that $75 will go to salaries, upkeep, etc. No matter, the purests will come regardless of the price, stay a week or so and drop money all over that side of Florida. Bring it on, we’re ready!
