According to TV Guide and the NY Post, Veronica Mars creator Rob Thomas has been given the “go-ahead” to make a movie of the series, which starred Kristen Bell.
Veronica Mars lasted three years, two on UPN and then a third year on UPN’s successor, The CW, which was the network that aired the final two seasons of Gilmore Girls. Just like with Gilmore Girls fans, there was a general outcry when the series was cancelled and talk of a movie has surfaced several times since the series completed in May, 2007.
Rob Thomas, producer Joel Silver and star Kristen Bell all have shared enthusiasm for bringing back Veronica Mars in movie format. Thomas shared that he now has enough time to write the movie script and will be working on that in the next couple of months. The movie will need to be financed after that, but things look good.
So, what does this mean for Gilmore Girls? As with the admission for Veronica Mars that “Cult shows have translated well into the film arena,” a strong and continued presence of Gilmore Girls fans along with the push by show creators (come on Amy Sherman-Palladino!!) to pursue a film can make a difference.
So, is there hope? Hard to say yet. Amy Sherman-Palladino has shared a desire to wrap up the series her way, but that there is some “wound-licking” to be done. As Dan Palladino once said:
“I think you wait a couple years. Wait a couple years. Make sure there’s some interest.”
So, keep up that interest folks!

When exactly did AB state that she would not be interested in doing a GG reunion movie? Maybe she did, and I missed it. Please supply the link to the statement if you have it.
If this AB stuff is about what went down at the end of season 7 – look, both LG and AB were weary of the series grind – that was no secret. LG was more vocal about it than anyone. AB spent 7 years of her young adult life dedicated to the series. They were both ready for a break.
The fact(?) that LG was willing to go another season doesn’t mean it made sense to. Who was going to run the thing? Certainly not Amy – she was busy with her little disaster at Fox (sorry Amy – you know I love ya!). All I heard was moaning and complaining through all of season 7 under the leadership at the time.
I’m still confident that, when the time is right, Amy will put together a great little TV reunion movie (and, who knows, maybe even start a little TV movie franchise to visit Stars Hollow every year or 2 – that would be ideal). I’m also confident that, if Amy’s in charge, she’ll have no problem getting the original cast together. I think there was a great deal of respect all around.
In closing, I’ll just say that the continued persecution of AB helps nothing. She dedicate 7 years of her young life to a TV classic and decided to move on. I’m thankful for those 7 years.
Let’s think about this one. The last time we saw Rory, she was going to be following Barack Obama on his bid for the presidency. HELLO – Mr. Obama is now the President of the United States and Rory has been reporting on him all this time. Likely she made some headlines in her reporting time too.
Meanwhile, Lorelai and Luke have been having their ups and downs, and probably got married sometime between Election Day and Inauguration Day, because of course Rory had to be there, and when else would they have had the time?
So Rory has a big-time reporting assignment under her belt and can pretty much write her own ticket – still working her way up, of course, but you know she’s done very well for herself. (Also, the Dragonfly Inn is now THE place to be when you travel, so Lorelai is doing well, too.)
It looks like you would have to turn the premise on its ear to have a plotline – and to get Alexis on board – so perhaps something untoward would have to happen, and they’d need Rory, ace reporter, back in the Hollow to put together the clues? Having to find the truth rather than just spout pop culture references would likely give Alexis more to do, and bring her on board, and then we could find out just what crazy business venture Kirk is into this time, what form Miss Patty’s one-woman show is going to take (you KNOW she’s back to working on one, just not with Kirk), and of course what’s happening with Gypsy, Andrew, Babette & Morey, and of course Mrs. Kim, Lane & hubby & band, and what new part of town has Taylor Doose taken over? You know it would be hilarious and fun, and if Alexis got to do some real investigative reporting (which she hasn’t done much of on-screen since the Life & Death Brigade jump), I think you could get her on board.
I’m just saying….

what i meant by, Alexis is a total Bitch & won’t want to do a movie, Her Movie Career isn’t high, Her movies she’s in flop like a bad Billy Ray Cyrus Album, So i won’t count on a movie in the next 3 yrs or ever
Hi-
At three years old, VM still had room to grow and storylines to explore. That Kristen also managed to stay very visible for her preferred demographic with roles in Heroes and Gossip Girl makes a VM movie financially plausible as well. Now if Kristen and Ernie just had some supporting characters to work against who were not boring, self-destructive, vain, moronic, etc!! Maybe they should hire the best of the GG team and find their own west coast Stars Hollow!!
Gilmore Girls is another matter. The storylines were for the most part played out, if not finalized in a satisfactory way for most of us. It was always obvious that while Lorelai was the main character, that Rory’s progress through school set the timeline for when the show could be considered successfully ended. Thus, the show could only end after seasons 3 or 7 [unless cancelled for poor ratings]. Of course the show was so successful at the end of season 3 that continuation was the only possible choice. Once that happened thay were locked in for the long haul and all the end-of-show fireworks and theatrics that ensued. It does not seem logistically or financially plausible that this in-fighting could ever be put aside to put together a movie of the quality of the first 3 seasons and short of that, why muddy their legacy!!
Hi Jeremy: What does mean “she’s a you know what”!
I’m afraid Jeremy is right. Kristen Bell, Jason Dohrig, Enrico Colentoni and Rob Thomas are all in for a VM movie.
I’m not sure the same thing is true for GG. I guess ig the P-team pens a TV movie, LG will be in and most members of the cast (they were asked before and seemed to be quite enthusiastic) + they don’t have much to do. Since GG is over none of them has really blossomed anywhere.
But I have some big doubts regarding AB and if she’s not in LG won’t be in either and that will be 2007 negociations all over again.
I want to keep hoping that something will happen but I’m too afraid to be disappointed so I juts assume a TV movie is just a drea. Whether it comes true someday I’ll consider it a miracle…
Great, great, great X(!!!Xn! + (!!!X3n!)
I’m a big fan of Kristen Bell. I have the three seasons in dvd and not ending. An original series. Yes I know the cast was better in GG, but VM didn’t aim to reach the same public. Veronica Mars was better suited for Teenager, and a little older, (…), while GG was for all ages. But VM was well cast, well played, and KB is full of talent too!
Yet, there is a great difference between GG and VM. Kristen Bell wanted to continue the role, (her part) the Rob Thomas also, but unfortunately they couldn’t.
For VM, there are big supporters. I haven’t read any for GG! It doesn’t that they do not exist, but that they do not speak or think about it.
Bu we can hope or even dream to see a movie about GG.
Yet a good page here could be: What dream did you make about GG?
And we could replay! “Oh, it was a funny one this time, and I laugh so much! It was so good to see the girls again”. (Dream, dream dream. I love this song).
Dreams are made of dreams, isn’t it?
a Gilmore Girl movie is never gonna happen so get use to it, Cause I’m sure Alexis doesn;t want to do one since she’s a you know what & the others have better things to do, Still i’m a Gilmore Girl fan but i wouldn’t hold your breath for a tv movie
Come on Palladinos!! There’s still an interest. TRUST us!!
That would be so great. I had heard about this and thought the same thing. I was hoping the same might happen for Gilmore Girls. The chances seem abit more likely with this so thats good.
THAT would be a miracle but I keep my fingers crossed.
