A good theme song does many things: It amps you up for whatever you’re about to watch or play; it gets stuck in your head, but doesn’t get annoying; and perhaps most importantly, it always makes you happy when you hear it. Maybe this is why the best theme songs come attached to geeky things. And maybe, because geeky things have such dedicated fans, that’s why there are so many mind-blowingly awesome covers of those terrifically geeky themes. Furthermore, there’s something for every style preference. A cappella? Metal? Acoustic? Tesla coil? Take your pick– they’re all represented here! Here are our favorite fan-made covers of our favorite geeky theme songs:
1) Portal 2 A Cappella Turret Opera
By now, I’m sure most of you Portal players out there have found the adorable set of singing turrets hidden midway through the game. Dig their song? Try this a cappella version on for size. The turrets may be cuter, but these humans are still pretty impressive.
2) Firefly’s Punk Hero of Canton
Music for the Mudders in your life. And yes, they’re all wearing cunning hats knit by Ma Cobb.
3) Game of Thrones Metal Theme
The Game of Thrones theme is exceptionally good on its own, so naturally, plenty of great things happen when musically-inclined fans have their way with it. Rock out.
