View Hot Topic: Should Teachers Receive Christmas Gifts From Parents?

Joy Behar: Former Public School Teacher

Joy Behar: Former Public School Teacher

Shhh! I have a secret! My sister, a public school teacher, gets so many gifts from her students’ parents every year, she often shares the goodies with yours truly!

My sister — if she wasn’t teaching her fifth grade class today — would have loved to hear today’s View discussion about teachers receiving gifts from the parents of their students. The main point brought up by the ladies: It canĀ  lead to favoritism if one parent can afford to give a teacher more expensive gifts than other parents.

Good point, but as Elisabeth said, “[Teachers] do so much for our kids…[we should] shower them with gifts!”

So, do you think teachers should receive Christmas gifts from parents? If not, can you think of a solution to this gift-giving dilemma? Let me know in the comments!
