Virgin Viewing: ‘Back to the Future’

So, I finally got around to watching Back to the Future, and it really was as enjoyable as everyone told me it would be. Though some of the references haven’t aged well (I love a good Ronald Reagan joke as much as the next girl, but still), the movie is still funny, endearing, and a lot of fun. Perhaps because it was more lighthearted than some of the other films I’ve watched for this feature, I just found myself making a list of thoughts as they came along. Here it is, verbatim:

  • Michael J. Fox does not age.
  • Christopher Lloyd‘s hair really deserved separate billing.
  • If I were Claudia Wells, I would still be pissed about the fact that I got about five lines in the movie and then they replaced me with Elisabeth Shue.
  • What the heck happened to Einstein? After he time-traveled he disappeared from the movie. Is he okay? Did he decide Doc Brown was too insane to hang out with anymore? I need answers.
  • The scene with Libyan terrorists was a little too relevant to this 2011 viewer.
  • Crispin Glover‘s hair made me kind of uncomfortable. This could be because the only Crispin Glover movie I’d seen before this was the trailer for Willard
  • I watched the making-of featurette and felt really, really bad for Eric Stoltz (who was cast as Marty but lasted about a month until he was fired and replaced with original-choice Fox).
  • Wait, Ralph Macchio turned down the lead in this movie? Are you allowed to do Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon with people who were almost in a movie?
  • The outtake where Fox does the “she’s cheating on a test!” scene as a cholo is possibly the funniest thing I have ever seen.
  • Steven Spielberg‘s hair in the 80s was awesome.
  • The actor who played Biff, Thomas F. Wilson, was the gym teacher on Freaks and Geeks AND does a voice on SpongeBob. Why is he not more famous? Is he the male Anne Dudek?
  • Seriously, Michael J. Fox does not age. It’s amazing.

Anyone been playing the Back to the Future PC games that Tell Tale has been putting out recently? They’re pretty entertaining, and there’s some good continuity with the films. Though it’s a little weird to hear Christopher Lloyd voicing a teenage version of Doc Brown.

If you need answers, you are in luck. There are two more movies in which the fate of Einstein is revealed. You must do write-ups of these too :)
