Was Rory Flirting with her Prank?

In the Gilmore Girls episode ‘But Not as Cute as Pushkin‘, does Rory use her prank as a means to tell Logan she likes him?

Although in this very same episode Rory tells Lorelai that Logan is “just a friend” and that she needs a “boy break” after Dean, the fact that Rory is thinking about return-pranking Logan tells me there’s something else going on there. Logan is *very* obvious in his overtures towards Rory – showing up wherever she is, pulling that elaborate prank during her class. I would think Rory would clearly see his goal here and that by returning his prank she’s trying to play his game – to flirt back. It’s not just about getting even or being mad – there’s a heck of a lot more thought in it.

Logan’s prank was to come to Rory’s class with Colin and Finn to have a love spat, telling Rory to “give them back their balls.” After Rory calls him a “buttface miscreant” and makes him feel guilty for interrupting her learning, Rory obviously had a prank up her sleeve. At the end of the episode, Richard Gilmore pays a visit to Logan at Yale, having heard about the ‘incident’ and Logan’s feelings for Rory. Richard says he’s talked with Logan’s father, has drawn up pre-nups, and welcomes him to the family.

So, why do you think Rory returned the prank? Was it to escalate Logan’s attentions? Or was she simply proving that she could live the line of the Life and Death Brigade and do something “different” like Logan challenged her to?
