Walt Disney Studios seems to be taking movies off of their slate left and right. It was recently announced that "Captain Nemo: 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea” was being put on hold indefinitely and now more news of another movie being pulled has surfaced.
The romantic comedy “Wedding Banned”, which Robin Williams and Diane Keaton had signed on for, has been pulled.
According to Reuters, "Banned" revolves around a long-divorced couple (Williams and Keaton) who kidnap their daughter (Anna Faris) on her wedding day to prevent her from making the same mistakes they did. The parents rekindle their relationship as they elude cops and the angry groom. The film’s production company, Mandevile Films, is now free to shop it around town.
The move by Rich Ross to pull this movie has definitely surprised people. Some think the decision had to do with the fact that “Old Dogs”, also starring Robin Williams, did poorly at the box office.
Projects that Ross has green-lighted include a remake of “The Black Hole” and has gained the rights to the book series “Fallen”.
What do you think about the decision?
