While debating discussion thread ideas, one idea that was tossed out more than once was the question of what draws you, as a reader, here to PittWatch. That sounded a bit too much like I was looking for validation, so here’s a spin on it.
What draws you in most to Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie? Is it their movies and their acting abilities? The way they look with their modern-day twist on old school Hollywood glamor? The humanitarian work that they always find time for? The amazing way they’ve created a beautifully multi-cultural family? Was it your love of Brad that you became interested in Angelina? Or was it the other way around where you came to appreciate Brad because of Angie?
I made a poll just for fun, and I included the option to decide that you can’t choose just one reason for being drawn to this power couple.
However, since it’s a discussion thread, maybe we can talk about why you find yourself so interested in them.
This is my version. I was a fan of Brad Pitt in general for his acting and his movies. I didn’t really know much about him on an off-screen level back then. I wasn’t even particularly attracted to him when he was younger – while I could see that he was certainly a good-looking guy, he was too blond and too pretty for my own personal tastes. While I enjoyed his movies overall, I think that his role in Interview With the Vampire was one of the times I sort of sat up a little straighter and said, “wow. He’s amazing!”
Angelina Jolie, on the other hand, was an actress I had always loved. My favorite actress had been Winona Ryder for years, but then I saw Girl Interrupted where Angie essentially overshadowed everyone else in the cast, including Winona’s lead character. From there she went from being an actress I really enjoyed to my number one favorite and she’s never budged since. I read about her regularly and when Angelina started working with the UNHCR I was thrilled to see all the good she was bringing to people who were so often overlooked.
Naturally I love the whole Jolie-Pitt family too. As a mother myself, I love to read about what they do as a family together or see them out having fun as normally as celebrities possibly can. I admire the way they try to make sure that cultures are not lost, that they become an important focus of the entire family – it ends up being educational for all of them.
And there’s no doubt on red carpet nights that I love to look at Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, dressed to the nines and looking like they could very easily step back in time to the glamor of old Hollywood.
So while it is indeed true that I have trouble choosing one reason, it mostly comes down to having been a huge Angelina fan, learning more about Brad as they got together, and then admiring everything that they do – movies, humanitarian work, and family life.
I think that another reason that people might be so interested in them, not just as a couple, but their full family is that most of us can’t relate to the celebrity world. While I love the clothes and whatnot, when I’m sitting here in $30 jeans, I can’t relate to a $20,000 gown someone might wear on the red carpet, or a jeweler loaning out a million dollar necklace to an actress on Oscar night. But I’m a mother and I can relate to kids saying funny things like Zahara does or a kid who likes to run like Shiloh (and then falls and skins a knee like Shiloh). I can relate to being up in the middle of the night, to carrying a tired child, to buying toys. I think a lot of us can; even those without kids were kids once themselves.
The family side of the Jolie-Pitts is something normal, something that isn’t so far out of our reach, even if not all of us could afford to care for six children like they do.
What about you? What are your thoughts on the draw to Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie?

I was never a fan of Brad until he hooked up with Angie. I have always been a fan of Angie. I have watched most of her movies/interviews including Wanted and Changeling. She is a great actress but what got me hooked is her humanitarian work. When I read about all the charities she supports and how generous she is, it blew me away. Her capacity to love any child as if they are her blood and her compassion and dedication for doing good is an example we should all embrace. It changed my life. She has motivated me in doing something myself which I have never considered before. When I think of how old she is and all she has accomplished at 33 I feel enormous respect for her. I also feel protective of her against all the people that attack her which I put down to envy because she is gorgeous, single, young, confident and an achiever and most women don’t like that unfortunately.
I only noticed Brad when he got involved with Angie, never took notice of him before. When he started doing a lot of charity work as well and seeing how much he loves her, I became a fan. I must admit that the chemistry between him and Angie is so captivating to watch and I love it. It is like watching romantic movies of the golden era. Their touchy-feeling, eye contact and how they smile at each other. I also think they are soulmate and their relationship is destined to last a long long time..
I like Angelina since I watched her in girl interrupted. Then I fell in love with her when she adopted Maddox and since then I am hooked because of my great admiration on her goodwill work as the ambassador and charity work. I am also known as avid AJ fan and now Brad and whole family by my own family, friends and coworkers.
Okay, my first time participating in a discussion thread yay :).
Goodness…there’s a lot of reasons for why I’m so drawn to this couple, it’s so hard to choose just one. At first, I was never a big fan of these two (but I didn’t despise them either), just admired their work as actors, their humanitarian efforts, and their beautiful family. They aren’t your typical Hollywood couple, which I find refreshing in our celebrity-centric society.
It wasn’t until I saw TCCOBB that my interest in Brad and Angie came into fruition. I was so impressed with Brad’s work in that film, I started watching his interviews on youtube. The way he would light up when he talked about AJ and their family – it was so sweet. And the more he talked about them, the more I became interested in AJ. So I turned to youtube once again to learn more about AJ and their family.
Well, I probably shouldn’t have done that ’cause now I have this ridiculous girl crush on AJ lmao. There’s just something about her that I really admire. To see how she’s grown from her younger “wild” days to this more mature, centered, woman – it’s really…um idk, cool lol (as someone who studied psychology, I love learning about human behavior and how people change overtime – probably why I find her so fascinating). Not to mention she’s gorgeous! I knew she was pretty before, but I honestly think being a mother made her that much more beautiful – ugh, hate her :P lol kidding! Add on her humanitarian work and I was hooked. I can’t seem to get enough of her nowadays lmao.
Overall, I just think they’re good people. They have carried themselves so well when it comes to their relationship, family, and careers. Judging by their actions, I truly believe they understand what life is about – the idea of being of service to others, rather than to yourself (at least that what I believe in). And despite the fact that they’re so high-profile and just seem like they’re on another level compared to other celebrities, they seem rather normal (minus the private jet and million dollar homes lol).
I have a confession…I had a “girl crush” on Angelina’s lips years ago, even before Tomb Raider. Then I started doing some research about her and found she wasn’t like the rest of the spoiled hollywood starlets and I respected that about her. She didn’t have body guards, a cell phone or a person that spoke on her behalf. She packed everything she needed for a week in one backpack and went to airports alone. (I know all that has changed since life with Brad). So I began following her throughout life. I had to look past the relationship with Billy Bob nor am I a fan of tatoo’s. Then she adopted Maddox and became this wonderful humanitarian of the world, giving 1/3 of her earnings to charity. Then she met Brad and I knew in my heart once he met her he would never be the same again. I knew how badly he was wanting a family and I knew how badly she longed for family stability that she never had growing up. I think they were made for each other and I wish them many years of happiness together. All of my friends know I’m a “Angelina Junkie” and they get regular updates on her and Brad whether they want to hear it or not. She will always be my hero and now Brad is as well.
For me it was Gia with Angelina and Meet Joe Black with Brad. But together they are wonderful. Need I say more?
I always thought that Brad and Jen were a good looking couple, but I have something in my personality that I always go for the under dog. And being a big reader of the fan magazines I started to notice that Jen appeared to be pulling away from Brad, forgetting to thank him at an award show, making the remark that he was not the love of her life. He wanting a family, her being to busy etc etc. Any way when the rumors about him and Angie started I felt happy for him. When I saw the picture of Angie, Brad and Madd in some field in England and Brad was teaching Madd how to ride some type of scooter I was hooked. I prayed to myself that they would be come a couple and then a family. I love hearing about all of them, I believe that they will make even more large contributions to the needy. I feel they are a very powerful couple, and I adore all their children.
actually in difference to Susan’S opinion, i am a true Angelina”s fans. big one. I collect all her movies from the very start. And i like her lifestyle. Not afraid of what is going on in this world, im kinda of like her.or her like me. but most especially she is a real person, honest, very loving and giving and she found her soulmate in Brad, together they are the best, and i love them both.
Was always a Brad Pitt fan, but A River Runs Through It really nailed it for me. I always thought Angelina was interesting, but never payed much attention to her until a saw a rerun of Gia, and she blew me away. Unlike a lot of AJ fans I do not make a point of seeing her movies. Mr and Mrs Smith was the first AJ movie I actually went to the theatre to see. I never really took AJ seriously, because I didn’t think she took herself very seriously. She was just a little to weird for me. Very happy she has grownup and found her passion or should I say passions. I think these two people were meant for each other.
I was a fan of both before they got together. AND am very happy they found each other. Their love is strong. Also if you look at their lives and the things they each said and did in the past they were meant to be. And am NOT referring to tabloids headlines.
I was not a fan of both until MMS. Their chemistry was smoldering on and off camera. Then I started reading more about them and their humanitarian efforts. I admire them not only because of their beauty and stature, but because of their graciousness and generosity. More power to them and God bless them always!
I became interested in Brad when I saw a river runs though it, after I watched every movie he was in and bought most of them. AJ I became interested in when I saw A girl interrupted I watched it because I was a big fan of Winona’s acting. Then I say AJ’s action movies and that was it she was awesome. I became a Internet fan (fan of their personal life) when they got together and have followed the interesting family they have put together. I also respect the humanitarian work they have done, and hope they continue. They are both beautiful people, but it is more their classic style I find attractive.
Knowing angelina’s life is indeed very fascinating. From stumbling through the gothic nightmare of her twenties and exploring life’s extremes, she has done it all – learned a lot of lessons but has never regret anything. She is an actress who has evolved beautifully and has matured through her life experiences. She is now an award winning actress, a loving mother and partner and a philantrophist. What’s not to love about that?
Brad i believe is a very good actor even before he met Angie but is underrated. He has also evolved from this guy who just love to chill and sun bathe in beaches, who’s got tons of dreams but don’t know how to reach it like his interest in architecture and photography to this beautiful man who’s commited and dedicated to his family and to the world.
Together they try to save the world, entertain people with their talents and make a beautiful family.
Sherry, i am so glad that we all haven’t got to experience the brutality and inequality of the 1920′s. I can’t imagine what will happen to our world if higher authority will have all the rights and can abuse their power.
Dear Sherry,
I’m a manicurist who is running my own spa( check the webside). I always dream of some days when I will have a chance to offer mani-pedi to the whole Brangelina family.
I don’t need any fame. Their people just call me and i will be there for them secretly. I may trim all the kid nails and give Angelina the best manicure she ever get.
Just to be around their energy would make my dream come true.
I will be in The Big Easy late Feb.I would love to give manicures for those lost their home,If you can help me how to do that.
Thank you!
I have loved them both since the beginning. Ang does a great job and so does Brad. This is sad but true for me, when I found out that Brad and Angie were going to do a movie together, I really really wanted them to get together. Sorry Jen, I love her too, but like she said on “O” it’s so0 yesterday with Brad.
I have alway been a fan of Angelina Jolie, I dont know if it was her bad girl persona, acting, maybe both. When I saw the first movie, I was like I am in no way a lesbian but this girl is beautiful in a very not so normal kind of way! She actually made me appreciate my lips because I was ashamed of how porn starish they looked! But when I saw Mr. and Mrs. Smith, I fell in love with both her and Brad. And I thought wouldn’t it be ironic if these two got together? And well the rest as you know it is history. Now they have this beautiful family together and I see so much love and the change in Brad and Angie…wow just too much to put into word. I just really hope they defy the odds, I think they are each others best and I pray that they last togethr as long as God allows them!
oops, my comment is in moderation.
An interesting topic for a discussion thread, Sherry. For me, I was first a Brad Pitt fan and while I’ve always thought Angie is a good actress, I was never really that big a fan until she got together with Brad. But since they’ve been together, the fascination for me has been multi-fold. It’s all the things you mentioned in your poll, but there is something else I really can’t put my finger to. Perhaps it’s the fact that despite them being huge celebrities, I still a sense of “normalcy” in them, and that’s fascinating because that seems difficult to do in a celebrity world. I know they aren’t the only ones to do so, but I like the way they’ve been able to come into the open and then retreat into their privacy, of which I wish they would be able to have more. One thing I am sure of is that whatever is holding my fascination about them isn’t about to go away. :-D
Speaking of Changeling, I finally had a chance to get to see it recently. It was a very moving story and it brought me to tears several times. I expected that, I’m pretty emotional on a good day, it doesn’t take much to make me cry.
However, what I was not prepared for was the anger. I was SO ANGRY at the treatment of women back then, the way that they blew her off, then pretended she was crazy, the way she was treated in the hospital, it was all so awful. I nearly burst an artery on several occasions, that head cop was a real piece of work.
I know women still have a ways to go but I’m so glad that I live in this era and not in the 1920s!
BRANGELINA FOREVER – I can certainly agree with you about Brad being beautiful now. I know that some people mock him for the simple fact of life of aging (I hope they’re all ready to laugh at themselves in the mirror when they inevitably get older as well), but to me he looks even better now than he did in his 20s. He’s more rugged and mature looking now and very, very yummy!
It is already four years that I am a Brad Pitt fan. Many years before I’ve seen his movies (almost all the movies of 90′s) but never rest my gaze especially on him. When in 2004 I’ve seen the TROY, I was deeply shocked with his performance. It was a great emotional experience, and I started to interest in Brad Pitt’s personality, his life and work. I think that he is one of the most talented (and most underestimated) actors of our time, and from year to year I watch his progress. I am waiting impatiently for his new movie “The Curious Case with Benjamin Button”, it will start in my city only on January 30. And I whish my favourite actor to win the Oscar (which, on my opinion, he really deserves) for this character.
I was actually a fan of both Brad and Angelina before they got together. I love Brad Pitt, I think he is beautiful and a great actor. I love him in basically any comedy. He’s so goofy!
I actually started learning about Angelina through a relative who admired her for her UNHCR efforts. I didn’t know who Angelina Jolie was yet. And I came to respect her so much for that. I will always hear “Angelina donated this much, Angelina traveled here, Angelina covers her own expenses,” and finally what cemented that love and respect was when I found out she had adopted a Cambodian orphan. I thought wow, what a wonderful woman. The first photo I ever saw of Angelina was from the Alexander movie poster, and my mouth literally dropped. Seriously. She looks gorgeous. It’s one of my favorite pics of her. I thought she was just a drawing, I didn’t think anyone could be that beautiful. And finally, what I love about them is there multi racial family. What a beautiful way to fight racism, and become more aware of other beautiful cultures. Even Angelina looks exotic. People have even asked me if she is Hispanic. And as a Latina, I love that. Angelina is my idol and gives me hope. I love Angelina the actress, but I love Angelina the goodwill ambassador and mother of six even more. Everyone I know, really, respects Angelina.
