Hilary Duff‘s movie, What Goes Up (originally called Safety Glass) will have a limited theatrical release in select cities this May. The exact cities and dates are still being determined, but I’m glad to hear that the movie will hit theaters!
The producers have put up a new blog, outlining a few new details and graphics for the film, with promises of insights, updates and guest appearances by the cast and crew.
I can now clarify why the two trailers we’ve seen have different names. The first one, by the What Goes Up title, is the official trailer released by Sony for the US. The second trailer was an earlier cut for the purposes of securing international distribution, and goes by the original title Safety Glass. Great to have that clarification!
What Goes Up follows a “morally challenged” NY reporter, Campbell Babbitt (Steve Coogan), who returns to a small New Hampshire town to cover his hometown news surrounding the first civilian and teacher in space in the 1980s (Christa McAuliffe), giving us a glimpse into how heroes are made in this world. While there, he learns a few life lessons from a group of disaffected students (Hilary Duff, Josh Peck, Olivia Thirlby) who are mourning the loss of their teacher (and Babbitt’s friend), who committed suicide.
Here’s a part of the official description that speaks well to the storyline:
He discovers the least likely teachers — a group of dysfunctional high school students, misfits, and outcasts led by a narcissistic seductress (Hilary Duff), a repressed voyeur (Josh Peck), and a scheming pregnant teen (Olivia Thirlby). After sharing his own lapse of ethics in New York to gain their trust, Babbitt becomes obsessed with their subtleties of manipulation, need for attention, and desire to make heroes where no heroes exist.
The students end up teaching Babbitt that he may need a “hero” more than the students need him to replace their lost “hero.” And, when he finds this common ground with them, he begins to relate to them in potentially “perilous” ways (think ‘affair with student’ ways).

The film is indeed coming out mid-May, premiering at the Buffalo Niagara Film Festival May 8th, then in select theaters mid-May (LA, NYC & more). The song – ‘Any Other Day’ – will come out around the same time.
And Hilary is splendid in the film — a whole ‘nother side of her talents.

kool cant wait4 the movie
the dvd is 100% confirmed the same source said it was accurate.
All of this is just like that music stuff.
sources posting about a Digntiy Tour dvd, re-release of Dignity and much more. none of it happen or happen differently.
The DVD release date depends on how the movie does in theatrical release, so I’d rather not report on that until it’s 100% confirmed. :)
No its not… Its not a rumor if it has been confirmed by the producers, dummy. Amazon isn’t always reliable on their release dates, ya know that right? And remember war inc? That came out in theatres and was on DVD like a month and a half after.
yes it is.
Ummm arianna got it straight from the sources mouth, who are the people who made the film, so its not just a rumor.
it is rumor if there is a dvd release date for June 16th.
I actually have it from the people working on the movie, so it’s not a rumor. :)
This is just a rumor.
It comes from some new member at a hilary fan site.
Not really realible.
Halleluia!!!!!! Hilary movies take to long to came out! :) But May is great! can’t wait to see when Greta cames out
