What should Patricia Arquette wear to the Emmy Awards?
Katelyn, I know this has nothing with the subject, but I wanted to get something off my chest. And it is about the Emmys. You know I’ve been a poster at The Envelope for a while now, and up until yesterday, I had high hopes for Patricia’s chances of winning the Emmy. But I’ve finally come to the realization that she probably won’t win because Hollywood is filled with bigoted, braindead morons.
I read some comments yesterday that were started when one of the forum moderators, Tom O’Neill (a self-professed Emmy expert), started a thread titled “Give up, Patricia Arquette fans. She AIN’T winning.” Now it would have been one thing if he started a thread like this about every single nominee and gave his thoughts on their chances of winning, but he singled Patricia out. And if he had given a thoughtful, reasoned analysis of her performance and her submission, I might have been more inclined to listen to him, and maybe agree with him. But he came out with some of the most ridiculous, asinine assertions that I have ever heard.
First he said that she shouldn’t win because in the episode, she let a BLACK judge die so she could save a restaurant full of WHITE people. Then he said that because she refuses her husband sex repeatedly in the episode, that she’ll lose the STRAIGHT vote.
Needless to say, this had me seeing red, not because he said he didn’t like the episode, but because he turned it into a personal attack on Patricia. And when some of the Envelope posters called him on his comments, he offered no explanation other than to laugh at them.
And this is coming from a moderator on the forum and someone who is supposed to be in the minds of the Emmy voters. Well, if the Emmy voters think like him, then everyone who’s ever won one should melt their trophies down and send them back, because they aren’t worth spit.

Sorry about that earlier rant, Katelyn, but I just needed to get that off my chest. I was really p.o.’d by the things that that guy said, but he got jumped on so badly by the other posters over there that he closed the topic so no one else could comment. So at least that topic will go away now. And I lost a lot of respect for him for making such comments. I think some of the other Envelope posters did too.

I started a thread for Patricia supporters at Goldenderby, as you may have seen. I had not even see Tom O’Neils NASTY thread about Patricia and having no shot at the Emmy, until today. It is really, really bad. What a jerk. I actually say him on Entertainiment Tonight giving his opinions the week before the Emmy nominations.
I agree, he seems to just hate Patricia, and I have no idea why, and that carries into his formus, etc., and it does not have to do with her acting.
I now detest the man and have no respect for him after that. I won;t even add tot hat discussion, as I do not want it to come back up on the first page of the forums.
I must have been psychic to see that there needed to be a discussion in responce to that, as I never even saw it until today!
Don;t let some jerks over there get you down or even flustered. There are a lot of Patricia supporters outside of there, and actually in there too. Some people jump in and surprise me.
Vozas used to like her, then he all of a sudden turned against her. I don’t get it.
People get upset by really odd things sometimes, so who knows. I do know that a big fan who is disappointed in his or her idol can be so much nastier than someone who didn’t like the person to start.
I know that I don’t like watching Meg Ryan anymore and I used to go to every movie she made. I felt like she didn’t respect her fans with the things she was saying when she made that movie…I can’t remember the name of it. Anyway, making a movie that was completely different from what she usually did wasn’t a problem for me. It was her attitude during interviews.
MWA, I saw your thread at the Envelope and I have already added my opinions. Of course, vozas has already chimed in with his snotty remarks, and I’m trying to ignore him.
Like you, I was surprised at the reaction to that thread that Tom started. Many people jumped on him for his comments, not so much supporting Patricia, but because he was out of line. Either way, he got bashed enough that he closed the thread so no one else could comment. Like you, I have also lost a lot of respect for him after that. Yesterday vozas was taunting me as usual and when I responded, Tom came in and told me not to take it so personally, that it was all part of the game, and that I was asking for it because of my screen name and my admiration for Patricia. That’s bull. It’s just an excuse for someone to pick on someone else. Nothing more.
Katelyn, I know what you mean about becoming disillusioned by someone you look up to. I have felt the same thing for some actors when I see them in an interview or when I see them do a movie that flies in the face of everything I believe in.
Well, Patricia has won before, so let’s hope she will win again. She actually deserves it unlike some of the people who perennially are nominated every year, no matter what. Worse yet, the same people win over and over sometimes, even when they really don’t deserve it.
I’m afraid that Sopranos will win this year, not because it was an outstanding year for the show or the actors on it, but because it is the last year and people will give them the sympathy vote.
Anyway, I just hope that all of the Medium actors come to the awards shows and that Patricia looks so stunning at each show, everyone will be talking about her and the show and they will be on a lot of news shows. I hope NBC wakes up for once and sends all of the actors, not just Patricia, out with the dog and pony show to all the talk shows that are on the air to promote the show and her emmy nomination!
I like the way you think, Betty, but it probably ain’t happening. You’re probably right about the Sopranos winning with the farewell vote, even though I don’t think Edie Falco should get it this year. I would rather see Patricia or Kyra Sedgwick get it.
As for NBC promoting the show and her nomination, and sending the entire cast on appearances, that probably ain’t happening either. What makes you think that things are going to be different this year? You would think that with a guest like Anjelica Huston, they would promoting the heck out of the show and capitalizing on every publicity opportunity, including Patricia’s Emmy nomination, but they haven’t shown themselves to be too smart. Unless CBS Paramount takes the bull by the horns and does their own promotion, which I would love to see, because they have shown to be good at the publicity thing.
MWA: I have officially kissed off the Envelope. I’m through with that bunch of over-opinionated egomaniacs. So I won’t be going back over there. I will still be pulling for Patricia to win, although the consensus over there has all but convinced me that she won’t win. I am still hoping, but at this point, it would seem like a minor miracle if she won. So you’re on your own over there.
You know, if you watch USA, they mention about a thousand times a day that Monk is nominated for an Emmy. Have I just missed this on NBC or didn’t they redo their ads for the Medium reruns?
I have only seen a couple of the Medium reruns this summer because they keep changing the schedule, but I haven’t seen anything on NBC about Patricia’s Emmy nomination. But if you notice, they rave about all the nominations that 30 Rock and The Office got, and the guy from Heroes, yet not a single word about Medium or Patricia’s nomination. I believe if the network had supported the Emmy campaign, then Jake could have gotten a nomination as well, but the network, as usual, did nothing. Maybe if NBC doesn’t renew the show after this season, then CBS will cancel Ghost Whisperer and pick up Medium, lol. I can dream, can’t I?
