What’s Wrong With American Idol Season 8?

Honestly, I’ve been busy and now I’m a bit under the weather but I can’t hold my tongue any longer – what is wrong with this current season of American Idol? Not only have I sat on my couch, shocked by what I’ve been seeing but I’m also getting angry emails from readers (I’ve even had one person ask me to email them when things improve). So what gives?

I know the producers are trying to bring a little freshness to the show by adding a new judge (Kara DioGuardi) and revising the Top 36 process but I think something else is going on. How else can you explain some of the contestants who have made it this far?

Let’s talk about Tatiana Del Toro. I won’t deny that she’s got a decent voice (decent, not great!) but all that we’ve seen of her is really unlikeable. Whether she was crying, praying or begging, she was almost unbearable to watch during the audition process. Last night, her subdued behavior was even stranger. I keep forgetting that this is a 24-year-old woman because she acts like she’s still in high school. I don’t get it and, what’s more, I don’t want to get it.

Then there’s Nick Mitchell/Norman Gentle. SERIOUSLY!? Again, don’t get me wrong. I like the guy and I even found him amusing during his audition and Hollywood Week but to make it to the Top 36 when Jamar Rogers was cut? On what planet does that make any kind of sense?

And what was going on with the band and backup singers during last night’s performances? They really messed up for some people (like Stephen Fowler). How is that fair?

I am hearing that from a lot of people which, of course, is so sad to me. I hope this season improves!

I agree, this season is just off. lol To me, there really isn’t that good of talent this time around. Top that with trying to make Kara fit in with everyone, I just don’t think it’s working out too well at all.
I’m glad that Tatiana is gone, she was extremely annoying much like Nick. Both of them should’ve been dropped a long time ago. I can honestly say for the first time that I’m not voting at all this season.

There are so many things awry with season 8 that I don’t know where to start. First off, some of the choices. Norman/Nick is a pure JOKE. How could anyone even consider him making it thru hollywood week is beyond me. When I see him on tv, I want to hurl something at him and the judges for even giving him a chance!

Tatiana Del Toro. GOOD GOD! That woman (child) needs HELP! Why in the world is she in the top 36? Her performance was alright, but forgettable. I’ve heard better. Seriously, she’s looking for a sympathy vote, or fpr people to get taken in by her tears and her pleas and her wailing. Get over it woman! Its amazing how far she’ll go.

I could go on, and I probably will later. I am disappointed at the standard of the top 36. And the whole new system. Its just a tad bit unfair.
