Which Thanksgiving Would You Go To?

In ‘A Deep-Fried Korean Thanksgiving‘, Rory & Lorelai find themselves committed to go to 4 Thanksgiving dinners! Who wouldn’t want that! Yum!

gilmore-girls-deep-fried-2.jpg

The four dinners were very different:

  1. Thanksgiving with the Kim’s – complete with Christian guitar music & a room of Koreans, the fare was tofurky
  2. At Sookie’s, it’s a deep fried turkey gone wrong. The event is outside and beautifully decorated, at least. And there’s alcohol.
  3. At Luke’s, Rory & Lorelai join Jess & Luke at a comfortable table that Luke has been holding for them. Very much like a "family" meal. And the rolls were apparently good enough to return for!
  4. At the Gilmore house, it’s a bit more formal, as expected. Aside from a fight about Rory and Yale, the food looked good. However, they left early.

In the end, they received gold medals for eating! ;) But which dinner would you most like to go to – and why?! And your thoughts don’t need to be about the food.

Luke’s Diner. I would never to the grandparents house and Mrs. Kim is too intense and Sookie’s husband would probably set you on fire. So Thanksgiving with Jess and Luke sounds the best to me. :)

Personally,,,,I would say that I would try and go to both Sookies and Lukes. The reason for going to Lukes is because he seems like he always saves them a spot and is very homely and stuff. But I would also go to Sookies cause I know Id be guranteed a pretty entertaining time and *hopefully* good food (just not in this episode)!

I would go to Sookie’s for the deep fried turkey-I hope everyone tries this once-use Rice Oil cause it is the BEST.

@mcityrk — too true — The Lorelai flip-out is so out of character for someone who can rebound and become so rational so quickly in this season that I could never figure out if the Palladinos really saw her as an emotionally arrested adolescent at this point or whether they did it just for effect in episodes like this one. Psycho-Lorelai certainly made a comeback in Season 6, but at this point it was just bizarre — especially as it was never made clear that Richard wanted Lorelai to go to Yale (I think she said at one point she was expected to go to Vassar). My mom would have been shocked if I applied only to one school, but this is what Lorelai seriously expected Rory to do? With at least some risk she might not be admitted, what did she think Rory would do if she had no backup, stay home for a year? And Rory was apparently so aware that Lorelai would flip out about multiple applications that she didn’t tell her that she did it? Again, I say, yikes.

The scene in the episode before this one, with Richard telling Rory of a memory with Lorelai taking his diploma and putting it in her room saying she wanted to be just like him was one of the best of the whole series. I certainly wanted to be Richard’s kid at that point. And Emily’s retort to Lorelai – ”Fine, Lorelai, your father’s a demon. He’s cruel and out to destroy your happiness” – is classic.

It made me wonder whether Lorelai’s portrayal of her childhood was nothing like she claimed it was.

And why I’d have loved to be at the Gilmore dinner, just to mix it up and really shake things up even more.

@Josh- Good call. After the drama of Richard’s ill conceived Yale ambush, we quickly get to see both girls warm-up to Yale when flipping thru the booklets. And then for the writers to suggest after all the theatrics of filling out the applications that Lorelai would be cluless as to where Rory applied, let alone to believe it was only to Harvard. Incredibly lazy and sloppy plotline just to set up a holiday argument!!

The Gilmores — with all due respect, I think Emily’s food would be at a pretty high standard, especially when she had guests over.

But mostly I’d want to be there to pull Lorelai aside and call her on her paranoia. If you take this episode back with Season 1, where Lorelai admits she was brainwashing Rory for Harvard when she was a toddler, we see how much she had invested in it. It was to stick it to Richard, to the point where she was horrified Rory would even apply to anywhere else, not to mention Yale, and would accuse her own daughter in front of strangers of being a puppet?

WOW. Fortunately, in this season (the dream season), Lorelai experiences some growth and comes off like a star the way she supports Rory going to Yale, but at this point — yikes.

It really would’ve been cool if someone had been there other than Emily to tell her she was out of her mind.

Lukes would have had the best meal, but Sookies had the best party. Deep fried turkey is actually delicious too, though not the healthiest choice!

I’d say it’s a toss up between Luke’s and Sookie’s. Luke’s is more familyish and cozy but at Sookies the atmosphere was nicer; being outside and the funess.

hmm yes no arguments here – luke’s for sure. so cute how jess let it slip that luke didnt want to eat till they got there…awww….sookie’s was v funny but, well, no jess there. and the kims was kinda freaky with that tofurkey and all. the gilmores are just so stressful, i dont think so. v cool ep.

Lukes – Firstly good food, which admittedly you would get at sookies and gilmore house, but unique company as well – two people who hate social gatherings in a room forced to socialize with others – would make for great entertainment. Also as Jess would be there I think the choice is obvious!

In order of increasing preference: 4] The Kims – Too much like grade school choir practice, not now, not ever, never. 3] Sookie’s – Great destination for a quick getaway with green beans almondine, great dressing and the like and a final drop-in for pie, but five hours with dumb and dumber and not one but two visits from the fire marshall … maybe next year. 2] Lukes – Good food, good company, and just like the past 3 years – a great fallback to have. 1] The Gilmores – Great food, unique one-time company, and an argument to mark this evening in collective memories, ain’t family great …. when taken at infinite dilution [once a year].

    LUKESSSSSSSSSS FOR SURE!!!

I think it would be Sookies cause it looks like everyone is laughing and having a good time. Miss Kims ans The Gilmore House are to formal and they both like to be in charge and Lorelai and Rory likes to have fun with people. Lukes would be fun if he was not to up tight about things and Jess just not a people person. So my choice would be Sookies even if she was drunk its still fun to have a great time on the holidays.

This is one of my favorite episodes EVER! I would have to choose Luke’s. He’s the one who really really really wanted the girls there anyway. I’m definately not down with tofurkey…Sookie’s would have been fun, but there was waaaay too much deep frying going on. As for Richard and Emily’s? Lorelei avoids that place like the plague for a reason.

    Luke’s of course!
Great atmosphere, awesome food, handsome guys and no fights!

Sookie cracked me up in this episode when she was drunk. She is so funny.
