Whitney Thompson Named National Eating Disorder Spokesperson

Whitney Thompson, who won Cycle 10 of America’s Next Top Model, was named an ambassador for the National Eating Disorders Association. In this role, Whitney will raise awareness about eating disorders and promote positive body image and debunk unreal body ideals.

“Since winning Top Model, I have heard from thousands of people all over the world who are dealing with eating disorders,” she said in a press release. “I want to support those people affected and their families and I want to help people identify and resist the social stereotypes and images that lead to unhealthy behavioral patterns.”

Good for Whitney for wanting to help. She’s a great role model for girls who have unrealistic expectations and are harming themselves in order to feel beautiful. But here’s the deal: Whitney’s never had an eating disorder. To preach about them seems high and mighty and not all that relatable. I’m probably judging to soon, and we’ll have to wait and see how this plays out.
