I grew up listening to The Pixies (as I’m sure many of you did) and every time I saw an interview with them I thought Kim Deal was the coolest chick. She spoke her mind, was laid back, and a little weird. I think I liked the weird part the most. Then The Breeders came along and it was time for Kim to shine. As the bassist and back-up vocalist for The Pixies she wanted to break out and be the lead singer. This of course caused some serious friction between the band (as it usually does) leading her to branch out. They eventually went their seperate ways making everyone (including myself) sad.
When ‘Where is My Mind’ was featured in Fight Club it seemed like the entire world was turned onto The Pixies and sure enough they reunited after 12 years to go on tour, one last time. And of course it was completely sold out.
Here’s a video of The Pixies performing “Monkey Gone to Heaven” on David Letterman after their sold out tour in 2004.
Also, check out this awesome clip from the documentary loudQuietloud that was created after their reunion tour!
The end sends shivers up my spine!!!
This next clip is a deleted scene from the documentary of Kim Deal going into a record shop. The sales clerk recognizes her name but doesn’t realize it’s her. He then asks her if she listens to The Breeders. She’s confused just as I am. It’s pretty funny.
