Why Did Jess Date Shane?

In ‘One’s Got Class and the Other One Dyes‘, we see more of Jess dating Shane. Of course, Rory is still upset about this, as she should be… perhaps.

Did Rory give Jess mixed signals about her intentions, by leaving for the summer & not breaking up with Dean? Is Jess trying to make Rory jealous? Or is Jess really just trying to move on? Here’s what he said to Luke:

“The girls that I like don’t give a damn about me. And unlike some other people I know, I’m not gonna sit around hoping that they change their minds and suddenly notice me.”

And why, of all girls, did Jess choose Shane? She’s not exactly Rory-level, is she? And Jess doesn’t even know her last name!

Only two possible reasons: 1- Practice, practice, practice and more importantly, 2 – Shock Rory into making up her mind by repeatingly tossing Shane into her face knowing that there was a good chance Rory would wake up and come around–

Hehehe why shane? Probably because she was easy & she was there…she left her bra in the back of his car, remember? So they obviously weren’t just sitting around playing scrabble…

I absolutely do not think that Jess was trying to move on. I think that Shane was probably the first girl he saw and went with it.
