According to an interview with Harry Potter game producer Jonathan Bunney at MTV, there might, MIGHT be video games that go beyond the ending of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Perhaps fan fiction? Who knows. Here’s the clip:
“I think that’s a great opportunity,” Wiimote-clutching “Harry Potter” executive producer Jonathan Bunney told MTV News last week at an EA summer press event. “Certainly, we’ve done it with ‘Lord of the Rings.’ We’ve extended beyond the movies there. We did it with James Bond for a while. I don’t know what we’ll do with ‘Harry Potter.’ It’d be fun to, I think. There’s more stories that we can tell.”
And moving beyond Deathly Hallows isn’t the only option that Harry Potter gaming fans might have. We might see a remake of older games as well:
“There’s an opportunity to go back to the original movie,” he said. “The technology has moved on so much. When we were first making those games, we were making it for PlayStation 1, and now we’ve got, you know, the Wii. I think there’s opportunities to [revisit stories]. “We have to figure out whether anyone wants to buy those or not!” he added with a laugh.
You might remember when I talked about the possibility of a Harry Potter MMORPG. Here’s what he had to say about that:
“We’ve talked about it a lot,” Bunney said. “The reality is that we’re focused on the movie games. I think there could be a fun MMO for ‘Harry Potter.’ “
And yes, there is going to be a Deathly Hallows game. Of course. Maybe even two games:
“We haven’t really thought about what we’re going to do yet, but it’s going to be really exciting,” Bunney said. “Obviously, it’s a great opportunity to make two games, but I want to make sure we make two great games. We don’t know how close those movies are going to be, how far apart they’re going to be and where they’re going to cut them in half.”
Just as a fun question, how many of you own and play Harry Potter games, and which ones do you have? I’ll go first: I have the Order of the Phoenix on the Wii, and it’s pretty fun. How about you?
I have Harry Potter 1, 2 and 3 on PC, 4 on playstation and 5 on the wii.
iv played the chamber of secrets on Playstation 2 and completed it..always wanted to play the
philosophers stone on PS2…
I was thinking this the other day and thought ‘wouldnt it be great if the first and 2nd harry potter films be remade on PS3, Wii or Xbox 360..now they can have the fully castle buit castle and everything plus if they could make it more challeging that would be awesome
…I think the goblet of fire should be remade. i wasnt mad about the levels that much. prefered it when the characters could rome around the castle…
being as ‘the tale of 3 brothers’ wont be made into a film it would be good if it could be a spin-off video game…also, maybe they’ll be a Quidditch world cup 2 but more ased on the film
