Readers of JloStalker know by now that Jennifer Lopez and her husband Marc Anthony are passionate about their Latin heritage. Marc Anthony is even in the Guinness Book of World Records as the top selling salsa singer of all time.
Latin music and culture has been a strong influence, especially as its gained popularity over the last few years. Jennifer and Marc are a part of making that happen. And I know they’d love the book that I’m giving away for our latest contest.
The Mambo Kings Play Songs of Love is a wonderful novel by Oscar Hijuelos. It’s about two brothers, Cesar and Nestor Castillo, who come to New York in 1949 from Cuba with dreams of making it big like their idols Xavier Cugat and Desi Arnaz. Eventually they perform with Desi Arnaz on I Love Lucy in 1955 and have a hit record with their band, the Mambo Kings. The book describes their their friends, family, and climb to fame. It’s no wonder that The Mambo Kings Play Songs of Love won the Pulitzer in 1990 and was made into a motion picture starring Antonio Banderas and Armand Assante.
