‘Black Swan’ Art Exhibit Has Pieces Featured in and Inspired by the Movie

The Regen Projects gallery in Los Angeles totally copied our post on the best Black Swan fan art with their new exhibition, curated by Dominic Sidhu. (We kid.) Sidhu was in charge of selecting the moody pieces that appeared in the film itself — think of Nina’s mom’s creepy portraits of her daughter, and the other sculptures in Nina’s delusions — some of which are featured here.

Sidhu explains the impetus behind several of the very physical pieces in this introductory video:

The photo gives you a good idea of the variety of art. The mirrored floor on which the guests are standing is my favorite of the pieces: It gives way beneath their feet, so that they are part of the slow shattering of Nina’s psyche. Reflected in the floor you can see two paintings, of a sort — the sexualized Into the Darkness by Richard Philips and a textured piece I couldn’t find the artist floor — plus what looks to be a fallen chandelier by Banks Violette.

The most fascinating works are the physical ones, the ones that involve scratching, tearing, and breaking, getting to the heart of Nina’s destructive obsession with perfection. If you live in the LA area, the exhibit runs through April 16.
