There’s nothing funny about getting fired and having to move back home, yet Christine Rochelle’s blog, Living With My Parents, sort of made us wish we had been the ones fired from MTV. Don’t cry for this blogger though, Rochelle manages to do just fine writing for LifeStyler, Remote Hacker, and MediaElites.com, and AOL. Oh, and she just got back from Vietnam. Being fired has never looked so good.
1. Everyone has a “thing.” What’s yours?
I lived in Vietnam for four months so I’m always referred to as the “Vietnam girl.” I answer a lot of questions on learning Vietnamese, beef soup, and whether or not I found any land mines.
2. What’s your backstory?
I grew up on the Jersey Shore – yes, the one you see on MTV where everyone fist pumps a little too hard and yells a little too loud. I went to Marist College in Poughkeepsie and spent most of my time interning in Manhattan. I moved to Midwood, Brooklyn after college because it sounded like the safest place to be out of all the Wikipedia entries I read on Brooklyn neighborhoods. After my stint in Vietnam I moved back to Jersey.
3. Everyone also has a karaoke song. Name yours (and don’t be shy).
“America” from West Side Story. It was a joke with my college roommate but since then I always check to see if they have the song. Usually they don’t. But if they do, I’ll totally belt it out since I know the whole song by heart.
4. Who are your biggest influences?
Bonnie Fuller, Bill O’Reilly, and Julia Allison. Basically anyone who has made a living out of being hated because that fascinates me.
5. What is it you most dislike?
Self-proclaimed NYC fashionistas slash Carrie Bradshaw wannabes. If you’re not near the level of Jessica Schroeder from ‘What I Wore,’ please save your fashion tips for your roommate and not the entire Tumblr community.
6. Whose job would you like to steal?
Author Jen Lancaster.
7. What was your best date?
My boyfriend at the time took me out to an Italian dinner in the East Village and then to see Jersey Boys. It seems simple, but it fit me and I found out from friends he had planned the whole thing a month beforehand after our third date.
8. What was your worst?
Well we were out with a group so I’m not sure if it counts as a date but he got pretty drunk and left me there. I texted him pissed off because I thought I was going back to his place and he told me he was too tired to have me over but if I needed a place to stay if I could just bring him some pizza that would be great. Clearly that ended things and I have shown that text message to pretty much everyone I know.
9. When I wake up in the middle of the night its because I’ve had a nightmare that I ___ .
Forgot to blog. I actually have this reoccurring nightmare of this Darth Vadar-like creature who comes into my room looking for blogs.
10. I feel my best when I’m wearing ___ .
My black “no fail” shirt. Because it never fails me. Unfortunately I wasn’t wearing it the night of my bad date.
11. Please settle the debate: New York or LA?
New York. When I was overseas no one asked me about LA or any other city. They just wanted to hear about New York.
12. What’s on your playlist at this very moment?
The entire Glee soundtrack, peppered with some La Roux and of course Janis Joplin.
13. What are you watching on TV?
Besides Glee, I have a big crush on Lee DeWyze from American Idol. But I like to record the show and just listen to him sing. Over and over again.
14. If you alone held the power to pick a boyfriend for Jennifer Aniston, who would you pick?
Jack Bauer. But he’s not real and thus not up for grabs. Poor Jen.
15. Given the chance, would you rather hang out with George Clooney or Robert Downey Jr.?
George Clooney hands down.
16. If you were a character on any movie or TV show, past or present, who would you be?
Jessie Spano from Saved By The Bell.
17. What is your drug of choice?
Chocolate.
18. What’s the last thing you think about before falling asleep at night?
All the blogs I have to write the next day.
