He looked exactly like this! But tinier! He was the cutest thing of the night.
I was conscious to avoid wearing leather shoes to the event for two reasons: 1. I didn't want to end up with red paint all over my knee-length boots, and
2. Because, while I'm certainly no PETA member, I am at least somewhat conscious and respectful of other people's beliefs. Or something.
But lots of people did wear leather though! And nobody seemed to mind a bit.
One of many. This one appeared to be adhered to the wearer's head with some sort of glue or bonding gel or something.
This woman made sure to carefully toss her hair to the opposite shoulder so that her tattoo would be visible at all times.
The cuddliest little teddy bear in all of New York.
Most people were dressed to the nines in sparkles and suits and things, but one woman wore this "Monkeys are our uncles" shirt.
What I wish I'd said: "Excuse me? Is my existence offending you in some way? What, you think you can blatantly insult someone to their face and expect them not to talk back? I'm not 14, though I am a hell of a lot younger than you. So I'm not sure what I've done to upset you, other than remind you of your own impending mortality. Take that!"
What I actually said: "Um, I'm sorry?"

It probably wasn’t leather. I’m wearing amazing over-the-knee faux leather boots today. You’d never think they were anything but the real thing. Vegan fashion rocks.
Great job, Liana! Your drawings are so much more evocative than photos would have been!
Aw, thanks!
