Illustrious Illustration: Lady Gaga Unicorn Artist Rose Briccetti

While Lady Gaga biting into a unicorn may seem like the most random (and brilliant?) image in the world, artist Rose Briccetti promises the idea wasn’t hers. In fact, most of her work features “large mainframe computers” and “retro office scenes.” But when someone asked the artists on Etsy.com in April to make them a picture of “Lady Gaga devouring a unicorn….you know, how a lion would eat his prey or something,” Rose couldn’t resist putting in a bid to win the project, especially after the item was picked up over at Regretsy.com and gained some attention. (The request was posted on Alchemy, a part of Etsy where people can request custom items).

In her words:

Basically as an Etsy artist and a Regretsy fan, I saw the request for the Lady Gaga painting and couldn’t resist bidding on a such a quirky project. I’d been extremely busy with a lot of other things at that time, and painting had been taking a backseat in my life, so I felt like working on a fun goofy project was just what I needed to get back into painting. I bid on the project and won, and worked closely with the buyer to design the painting. I was very open with the about discussing colors and ideas, and the buyer came into the project with some specific ideas about how the painting should look–what the setting should be, what Gaga should look like, that there should be paparazzi.
