The Daily WTF: Partula Snails Are Smaller Than Your Fingernail

Did you ever think a snail could be cute? Because partula snails are so tiny and transparent and adorable. It’s no surprise that this nearly-microscopic species is on the verge of extinction, however, because the islands on which they reside are probably equivalent to the Earth for them. Just look at them traversing the wrinkled, clammy peninsula of the human finger—the baby ones have to grip on to the adult just to stay upright!

But seriously, the real reason that the 120+ species have dwindled down to 5 is because of a carnivorous snail on the same islands. For shame! I know that we humans eat the partulas’ Godzilla-size relatives, but at least we have our standards.
