Transformers 3 is about to come out, which means star Shia LaBeouf is scheduled to do some interviews. In a chat with the L.A. Times, he sticks his foot in his mouth so many times he’s probably still tasting day-old socks. When asked how new love interest Rosie Huntington-Whiteley stacks up against former love interest Megan Fox, Shia said a bunch of convoluted and kinda-sexist crap, like:
Megan developed this Spice Girl strength, this woman-empowerment [stuff] that made her feel awkward about her involvement with Michael [Bay, the film's director], who some people think is a very lascivious filmmaker, the way he films women.
Mike films women in a way that appeals to a 16-year-old sexuality. … And I think [Fox] never got comfortable with it. This is a girl who was taken from complete obscurity and placed in a sex-driven role in front of the whole world and told she was the sexiest woman in America. And she had a hard time accepting it.
Rosie comes with this Victoria’s Secret background, and she’s comfortable with it [being objectified?], so she can get down with Mike’s way of working and it makes the whole set vibe very different.
Sam’s [Shia's character] sort of frustrated. He has no purpose in life. When he was with the Autobots, he had purpose. He was needed. But he’s got this very supportive girl [Rosie's character] who’s having him go to these job interviews and trying to nurture him, get him back on his feet. It’s a different female energy than he experienced with Mikaela [Megan's character], who was a very cold biker chick. This woman’s more of a maternal, loving type. Sam wants a domestic, eggs-in-the-morning kind of a thing.
Considering this is coming from a dude who said that his mom was “fly as hell” and “sexy,” I’m not terribly shocked. While I’ve never been the hugest Megan Fox fan, I did appreciate that she spoke out against the way that Michael Bay objectified her and other women in his movies, despite the fact that her mouthing off got her fired. Although Shia says that creating movies aimed at 16 year old boys is just Michael Bay’s thing, that doesn’t make it less gross or exploitative. Unfortunately, the only way that people like him stop behaving that way is if they become less popular – so, if Transformers 3 sells a lot of tickets there is absolutely no reason Michael Bay will stop making movies where women are just set dressing. Or where their job is to make eggs for their boyfriend after a long night of fighting Autobots.

No wonder the third installment has been rated crap. Looks like he is at least smart enough to leave the series as it is going down the drain. It will more than likely flop as expected.
