Here at Crushable, we like to answer questions. So we created a questionnaire for us and for anyone else that will let us ask them a few questions.
I filled out the first one. Enjoy!
1. What’s your backstory?
I was born and raised in the Chicago suburbs, and was always unheathily obsessed with pop culture, awards shows and — for a time — moving to Hollywood to date Jonathan Taylor Thomas. That did not happen but I did move to New York, where I have covered entertainment since 2005.
2. Everyone has a “thing.” What’s yours?
Taking a cab to work everyday. It’s my secret shame.
3. Everyone also has a karaoke song. Name yours (and don’t be shy).
Beast Of Burden
4. Who are your biggest influences?
Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen
5. What is it you most dislike?
6. Whose job would you like to steal?
8. What was your worst?
Match.com, 2008 — the guy, a creepy gynecologist, ordered sardines at a tapas restaurant. I’m not very good at controlling my facial expressions, so I scrunched up my face in disgust to which the guy goes, “People like you will never be happy.” Wha???? It went downhill from there and I walked out after less than 20 minutes. Then I went home and watched The Bachelor, which was way more satisfying than said bad date.
9. When I wake up in the middle of the night its because I’ve had a nightmare that I’m ___ .
…behind schedule and work/bills/obligations are piling up.
10. I feel my best when I’m wearing ___ .
…red lipstick.
11. Please settle the debate: New York or LA?
New York! The streets will make you feel brand new. The lights will inspire you.
12. What’s on your playlist at this very moment?
Alicia Keys, “Try Sleeping With A Broken Heart.”
13. What are you watching on TV?
Lost, Millionaire Matchmaker, American Idol, Real Housewives, 30 Rock, The Office, Real World DC, Anthony Bourdain’s No Reservations
14. If you alone held the power to pick the Oscar for Best Picture, would you give it to Avatar or The Hurt Locker?
Tough call. Did you see Avatar? It is awesome. Did you see The Hurt Locker? It is equally awesome. But while James Cameron’s dazzling special effects left me breathless, Kathryn Bigelow’s Iraq-set action-adventure haunted me for months afterward. It resonated emotionally and artistically, and also introduced me to Jeremy Renner — one of the most charismatic stars I’ve seen in years.
15. Given the chance, would you rather hang out with George Clooney or Robert Downey Jr.?
I want to say George Clooney but I’m going with RDJ. He would have better stories to tell.
16. If you were a character on any movie or TV show, past or present, who would you be?
How much time do you have? Some days I’m Annie Hall, other days I’m Liz Lemon. I have multiple personality disorder for fictional characters.
17. What is your drug of choice?
Caffeine. Diet Coke, Starbucks, anything that will keep me alert throughout the day. I am so immune to the effects of caffeine I can drink coffee at midnight — like Virginia from that song — and fall right to sleep.
18. What’s the last thing you think about before falling asleep at night?
No thoughts. I fall asleep as soon as my head hits the pillow. Then I roll out of bed and take a cab to work.
