This is the only one where I can't say definitively whether SJP hacked off her crazy-long hair and the writers worked it into Carrie's Vogue transformation... or if they told her what's what and she changed her hair for the preordained plotline. We may never know!
The inspiration for this gallery, Overstreet decided to change up his hairstyle during Glee's summer break. An overwhelming 91.7% of our readers agreed with me that the dark-haired look was much hotter.
This is how you sum up the character of Felicity: Big dreams and even bigger hair. When she spontaneously abandons her plans for college at Stanford and goes across the country to the "University of New York," we see her crazy hair trailing along as she goes after her crush Ben. Then at the beginning of season 2 after they've (spoiler) broken up, she chops off all her hair.
One story has it that Russell pranked the Felicity producers during the summer hiatus by sending them a photo of her in a short wig. After they stopped having a heart attack, they thought it over and figured the change fit with a heartbroken college girl. What it didn't fit with, however, was an icon.
Said then-WB Entertainment president Susanne Daniels: "Part of that strong image of Felicity was the shot of Felicity's profile by the window in her dorm room talking into [a tape recorder]. When they cut the hair off, and I couldn't foresee this, then you diluted that image. You diluted that icon."
Overstreet's co-star and brief on-screen love interest Dianna Agron also wanted a change. She had stylist Tyler Shields chop off a lot of length to give her a really great, blunt bob. And there's even a video of the process, with Jenna Ushkowitz watching over like a good friend.
This wasn't a hiatus in the traditional sense, because Watson chopped off her locks once she had wrapped production on the final Harry Potter movie. But considering that she had played the same part, with much the same hair, for the last ten years, she took a gamble by changing her appearance drastically enough that she couldn't necessarily get cast in the same roles for the next segment of her career.

The way this story tells it, it sounds like Gellar first approached the UPN execs about giving Buffy short hair, and they -- fearing the Felicity curse -- asked her to first try it out with a short wig. The timing matches up: Her last episode with long hair, "Wrecked," aired almost six weeks before "Gone," where a bewigged Gellar hacked off her hair and emerged with the lovely bob you see on the right.
