6 Ways ‘The Event’ Differs From ‘Lost’ and ’24′

Last night was the second episode of The Event, which a lot of people are calling NBC’s attempt at “Lost meets 24,” two very popular shows that went off the air this year. And the show does seem to bite a lot from both those beloved cult programs style: there are tropical islands, a black president, and lots of plane crashes/fights with “others.” But as Damon Lindelof, Lost’s creator, pointed out last night on Twitter, “I think THE EVENT is swell, but if 24 and LOST really had a baby it would hate both its parents and regularly engage in torture.”

And while we think Damon Lindelof should shut up most of the time, he has a point. Here’s 6 other ways The Event has differentiated itself from its predecessors.

1. No creepy, incoherent whispering from either island ghosts or Jack Bauer.

2. Neither 24 nor Lost ever thought it would be a good idea to include a main character from Gilmore Girls in a dramatic role. (Sorry, Luke.)

3. On Lost and 24, plane explosions usually involved the majority of the passengers dying in the explosion. Not afterwards, and inexplicably.

4. While Lost did feature some sort of time-space wormhole that deposited characters out in the desert, they ended up someplace cool like Tunisia. Not less than 2,000 miles away in Arizona.

5. Different kind of aliens than the ones dealt with on 24.

6. Lost focused on a spinal surgeon Jack Shephard, 24 on a counter-terrorist operative named Jack Bauer, and The Event on some stuttering kid named Sean Walker who doesn’t seem to have a vocation besides whining. (Maybe he’s a blogger?)

Other Reasons Kiefer Sutherland Could Have Been Thrown Out Of That Strip Club

Drowning away his sorrow over the last season of 24, Kiefer Sutherland got himself booted from a nudie bar in London after not getting that the “topless” isn’t referring to the patrons. But we’re starting to believe that Keifer’s public alcoholism is just a drunken cover-up for what’s really going on.

Last time Sutherland was arrested, it was last May for headbutting fashion designer Jack McCullough. In September 2007, Sutherland had that DUI that he ended up in jail for. Noticing a trend? Sutherland has the opposite of Seasonal Affective Disorder…so every time the weather gets nice out, Sutherland goes down the tubes.

Either that or he really is Jack Bauer, and his antics are covering up his secret missions. Like tackling a double-agent dressed as a giant Christmas tree.

Possible New Life For ’24′

Despite rumors that Fox might not pick up another season of 24, the series may live on — on NBC. Sources tell Entertainment Weekly that the studio that produces 24, 20th Century Fox, has piqued the interest of NBC execs, and Kiefer and the gang may end up on that channel if Fox decides to pass. 20th is also reportedly working on a Jack Bauer film franchise, which probably won’t get off the ground as long as the show is on the air. “Gilmore Girls” Stars on “24″

Two Gilmore Girls alumni appeared last night in the return of the FOX hit 24. For its much anticipated Season 7 premiere, many new characters were added to the show.

One of the stars last night on 24 was John Billingsley, who was a guest star on Gilmore Girls as Mr. Remmy in ‘Lorelais’ First Day at Chilton‘, but was probably best known from his work on Enterprise as Dr. Phlox or his many other SciFi appearances. The other Gilmore Girls guest star to appear last night on 24 was Nick Chinlund, who appeared in the same episode of Gilmore Girls as Ian Jack, the Chilton dad who has an immediate crush on Lorelai.

On 24, John Billingsley guest starred in the first two episodes of the season (8:00am – 9:00am, 9:00am – 10:00am) as Michael Latham, an engineer who is abducted for his specialized knowledge of a firewall module. He’s forced to work on it for the bad guys. Nick Chinlund starred in the same two episodes as ex-Agent Masters, a man who has gone to work for the “dark side” and is one of the men holding Latham hostage.
