But they still find time for cute moments like this one that UsMagazine.com snapped: AnnaLynne Skypes with Dominic in-between takes. It’s a cheesy moment that the paparazzi interrupted, but both are good sports about it—especially shirtless Dominic.
“Right now it sucks,” AnnaLynne frankly told Us (who seems to get all of her relationship scoop) last month. “I keep getting pictures of him in all his Viking outfits, and I’m like, ‘Are you just trying to tease me?’”

Dominic has also raved about his very “intelligent” younger woman: “She doesn’t take any of my shit—which I need.”

The couple went public just this past July, when he visited her on the 90210 set. Officer Down, the movie on which they met, is set to come out sometime in 2012.

I actually thought it might be Billy Ray from the moment he opened his mouth — the soul patch was a big tip-off, too — but then I figured that it was way too easy a choice and dismissed it. Only after “Vegas, Maybe?” was over did I do some Googling, and lo and behold—Miley Cyrus‘ dad is back on TV, playing a slightly more selfish version of his Hannah Montana character!

Most interestingly, he’s not credited on IMDb as playing Judd Ridge. You would think that since his last non-Disney project was The Spy Next Door, that he would like the extra publicity from The CW’s well-known teen soap. And yes, I do see now that the casting choice was announced back in September. But I missed that news item then, and there’s obviously been no update since.

Regardless, good for him for getting work! Because his Hannah Montana character Robbie Ray Stewart is mostly a bumbling adult, it’s really fun to see him play an actual asshole. Judd makes Austin’s birthday all about him, from assuming Naomi crashed Austin’s party to meet Judd, to guilting his son by saying, “Do you know how much it cost me to cancel my second show for your party?” Douchiness suits him.

Even though Austin and Naomi had a fight at the end of the episode — about her standing up to his dad, ironically — we’re hoping that Billy Ray pops in for a few more episodes. He’ll join the series’ other famous dad, Ryan O’Neal!

There also wasn’t a lot of promotion; one day she popped up, and she’s been in each episode’s C-plot since. Michael Ausiello did break the story back in August, but it came and went. Interestingly, back then her character was named Marissa Jackson-Lewis. I wonder what was the reason behind the change.

A source described Brandy’s character as “a cross between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama“—you might guess that ostensibly it’s because she’s black and female, but the tipster probably meant that Marissa can relate to the youth vote. After all, she and Silver develop a pretty amicable working relationship.

Except that all we see Marissa giving Silver unsolicited love advice. So, a woman can only be a leader if she’s spouting wisdom about trusting your man? And for some reason, Brandy’s signature husky voice doesn’t fit my mental image of a politician.

Last night’s episode did hint at an interesting development: Silver feels her trust in Marissa is abused when she discovers that Marissa hired an actress for a campaign video. But Marissa explains that the words belonged to a single mother she actually met who simply didn’t feel comfortable appearing on camera. This is obviously a woman who understands the importance of getting a message out; I wonder what lengths she’ll go to for that goal.

Regardless, it’s difficult to take Brandy at face value playing a straight-up politician. Now, if 90210 – which does plenty of commentary on fame — wanted to cast her as a former pop star fighting for the political issues she cares about, then that would fly.

Good morning! Welcome to your number one fantasy. This photo taken on the 90210 set shows actor Tate Donovan chillen sans shirt with his adorable little puppy. I want to print this photo out and cuddle with it until I fall asleep.

The 33-year-old Trevor plays the character Teddy Montgomery on 90210. Prior to the CW role, he appeared on the soap opera Days of Our Lives. I’m pretty sure these paparazzi photos show the puppy’s first role — though you can never really be sure in Hollywood.

We’ll always hold a special place in our hearts for Freaks and Geeks, so imagine our delight when one of the show’s alums appeared on The CW last night: Sarah Hagan, who played Lindsay’s awkward childhood friend Millie Kentner. Sarah’s long, freckled face is easily recognizable, and (unfortunately) she was playing the same character: A shy geek prone to blurting out reasons why she’s terminally uncool.

But more than a decade after Freaks and Geeks ended, Sarah’s playing a college freshman on 90210. What gives?

Don’t get us wrong, we’re really excited she’s actively working in Hollywood. It’s just tough to see an actress get typecast, especially in the “helpless geek” role. Even though Sarah grew out of her teenage awkwardness (she was fifteen on Freaks and Geeks), that’s obviously all that producers think when they see her.

Last night’s episode “Greek Tragedy” was basically The House Bunny, with AnneLynne McCord taking on the Anna Faris role as the prom queen who makes over a dowdy sorority and helps them find their inner goddesses. Literally—they roll into a beach party in togas and Cleopatra-esque headdresses.

Back to the age thing: Freaks and Geeks was one of the rare teen shows that actually employed teenage actors to play high schoolers. Fast forward to the ’00s era, where Sarah’s contemporaries on 90210 are all in their late twenties and even early thirties. In that way, the 27-year-old actress fits right in. But isn’t it astonishing that aside from cleaning up her skin and getting a proper haircut, she hasn’t aged one bit?

We can’t despair; despite guest spots on Undeclared and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Sarah’s also appeared on Grey’s Anatomy, Medium, and Private Practice. So hopefully she’ll continue to move on to more “grown-up” roles.

Both Steven and Lizzie decided to rush on Undeclared, and hazing rituals ensued. This episode also features the character of Tina who plays the song “How Bizarre” by OMC on repeat, which is one of the best storylines in TV history.

90210:

Last week’s episode of 90210 was all about hazing. Among other things, Naomi rushed a sorority and learned that girls are totally mean, you guys.

We were so busy worrying about whether new 90210 guest actor Ryan Rottman is replacing Trevor Donovan that another casting announcement slipped right by us! Meet Justin Deeley, who’s apparently not related to So You Think You Can Dance host Cat Deeley. He’ll be appearing on 90210 as “sexy cowboy type” Austin.

TVLine reports that, as with most 90210 characters, Austin is keeping a secret: He’s the son of a country singer, so he’s actually much wealthier than at first glance. This is all fine and good, except that he’s being positioned as the new love interest for Naomi (AnneLynne McCord). No one better try to break up Naomi and her boyfriend/babydaddy Max (Josh Zuckerman)!

Anyway, that’s all on tonight. For the time being, stare at Justin modeling for International Jock.

Most recovering addicts can recall their first high with perfect clarity. I’m no different. I stuck the sharp needle of Beverly Hills 90210 into my veins once a week for over a decade Every hackneyed plotline, every paper-thin character, every sugary-sweet plot resolution entered my bloodstream and made a comfortable home in my brain.

90210 was the gateway drug that led to Party of Five. Party of Five led to Buffy the Vampire Slayer and after Buffy I lost control. Now I watch these shows incessantly. The list is long and august and presented in no particular order: Angel, Felicity, One Tree Hill, Dawson’s Creek, Roswell, Smallville, the new 90210, Gossip Girl, My So-Called Life, Veronica Mars, The OC, and Friday Night Lights. I’ve seen every episode of every season of each of these shows. In some cases I’ve watched entire series several times. I’m not sure a dependency counselor would take me seriously if I ever sought treatment, but this peculiar habit certainly has my attention. So what’s a dignified man (in his early thirties) to do when he loves something so undignified? He embraces that which he loves and cherishes it all the more — and he also searches for meaning where none actually exists.

As I watch these programs, patterns emerge. The same plotlines are used, the same conflicts are explored, and the same characters are employed. I’m not talking about Man vs. Nature or Man vs. Man here, either. It’s almost as if a basic template was applied to each series and only character names and situations changed. The plot devices were almost incidental. To test my theory, I identified a few character archetypes that exist in each of these shows and then applied them an entirely new show of my own creation. They are:

• The All-American Boy: The center of most storylines, The All-American boy is handsome, fit, and actually in his mid-twenties. He ‘s the boy every American guy wants to be and every American girl wants to date. This character is the moral center of his peer group, and that trait often dissolves into self-righteousness. When this character makes the rare mistake, he has someone else’s best interests at heart, he’s defending a woman’s honor, or he commits a small act of rebellion because the pressure of being perfect is just too much to handle. Examples include Matt Saracen from Friday Night Lights, Clark Kent from Smallville, and Brandon Walsh from Beverly Hills 90210.

People are assuming that he’ll be Teddy’s new fling and will inspire the younger guy (who came out last season) to stand up for gay rights. But I think that Ryan’s character serves another purpose: Helping Trevor Donovan to transition off the show.

We know that Trevor’s got only about five episodes in the fall before he officially leaves the show; in that time, the writers can easily introduce Shane, position him within the group, and have him — as awful as this sounds — still represent the queer plotlines once Trevor exits.

I still think that the writers might kill off Teddy with a hate crime… and what more dramatic way than if it happened while he was fighting for gay marriage?

If you think about it, Shane’s age fits well; all of the characters are moving on to college, so it’s conceivable that he’s an older student or recent graduate at “California University” or wherever the main characters end up going to school.

We’ll know for sure when season 4 premieres on Tuesday, September 13 on The CW.

We’re guessing that the Nickelodeon-esque green slime is Naomi’s punishment for not winning. And although AnnaLynne looks disgusted, sources say that it was all good.

We have to hand it to AnnaLynne: Other actresses her age could turn their noses up at scenes that would make them look anything less than polished and sexy. But she jumps into these character quirks without much hesitation. Then again, she’s had a ton of experience: Her first big TV role was on the most absurd show of all, Nip/Tuck, where she seduced Dylan Walsh‘s character, then turned to porn and got the snot beaten out of her in a love scene.

AnnaLynne’s willingness to put herself in funny situations for 90210 also makes Naomi the character a lot more nuanced than just a mean girl.

Although speaking of Naomi’s more sympathetic aspects, she’s supposed to be pregnant this season. How come we’re not seeing a baby bump?
