DVD:

If you missed the harrowing performance that earned Mo’nique a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her role in Precious last night, you can watch it on DVD starting Tuesday. Precious also earned star Gabourey Sidibe, a notoriously upbeat, giggly late night guest, a Best Actress nomination for her transformative performance as a quiet, barely literate HIV-positive victim of incest. There’s a reason Precious was nominated for so many awards — see for yourself.

Movies:

All we really know about Remember Me is that it stars Robert Pattinson and Emilie de Ravin (of Lost fame, but we know her from Roswell). We’re seeing it regardless, due to our unbridled love of R-Pattz and his dreamy hair, but if you like movies starring romantic leads dealing with recent untimely deaths in their families (according to the film’s description on IMDb), this movie’s for you. There’s also apparently a twist ending that we’ve been trying to avoid, so don’t spoil it for us.

She’s Out of My League also comes out on Friday, but this is a movie that expects you to laugh at the line “Are you a plane doctor? No? So shut the hell up.” Yeah, that’s supposed to be funny. So watch at your own risk.

TV:

Spotted: Gossip Girl returning to its rightful time slot on Monday nights after an interminably long time on hiatus. Thank goodness it’s back. We can’t wait to see what mischief B and S cook up for themselves in 2010. XOXO

Tuesday’s got the first season finale of White Collar (mmmm, Matt Bomer), and Wednesday’s got the premiere of socialite reality show High Society and the season 14 premiere of America’s Next Top Model. Smile with your eyes, everyone.

Music:

The self-titled album from Broken Bells, the side project from Danger Mouse (of Gnarls Barkley) and James Mercer (of The Shins), hits stores on Tuesday. Their melodic pop album can be streamed in full at NPR until it releases tomorrow.

Flowers and mourners outside of the Alexander McQueen shop in Los Angeles

There are some things that even figure skater inspired outfits by Zac Posen can’t make better. Alexander McQueen’s untimely death has cast a pall over fashion week, and everyone who’s anyone is in mourning. Cynthia Rowley included a mention of the fashion world’s loss in her program, Anna Wintour fled the tents immediately after hearing about his suicide and flowers have been piling up outside the New York-based McQueen store. McQueen muse Daphne Guinness even spent time outside the store talking with other visitors.

Others have been paying tribute in their own unique way – we caught sight of Jay Manuel of America’s Next Top Model at Kim Kardashian’s show for Bebe (let me save you some time – rompers, there were a lot of rompers) and he noted that he was wearing something by Alexander McQueen every day for fashion week. “He was such a visionary, and it’s a great loss,” Jay remarked.

Though frankly, we prefer to remember McQueen’s own quote in his last interview where he remarked, “When I’m dead, hopefully this house will still be going. On a spaceship. Hopping up and down above earth.” It may sound a bit far fetched but then, so did shows featuring holograms of Kate Moss (which McQueen pulled off perfectly). I hope one day the house does end up on a spaceship –- and I hope any aliens they encounter look half as beautiful as the ones in McQueen’s last show.

On her obsession with Gossip Girl:

“I’m obsessed with Gossip Girl. It’s so wrong that Nate and Blair are getting back together. Blair is definitely the more interesting character. If I were going to play either of them [Blair or Serena], I would play Blair. I love watching America’s Next Top Model too. My flatmate, Sophie, is in the British version of the series- it make it extra tame(?). My other guilty pleasure is Twilight (noooooooo Emma noooooooo), I love those books. My friend and I read them back to back. This is so sad, but I literally felt depressed when I finished reading them because I thought, “Oh my God, what am I going to do now?”

On her Chanel connection:

“Before the fourth (fifth?) premiere, I’d just signed up for the model agency Storm, and they called me to say. ‘Chanel would love to lend you clothes.’ I was so excited.”

On attending fashion shows:

“There was a really great energy about the London shows and I felt so much more comfortable there. I literally got the Tube, walked from the Tube station to the venue with my stepmum and then walked straight to my seat. In Paris, as soon as I got out of my car I was hounded, I couldn’t even walk. In London I felt like I was there to see the clothes, but in Paris…I just didn’t realize how full-on it was going to be, I don’t think I’d ever do that again.
