The couple will celebrate their tenth anniversary this year, and though they’ve been engaged since 2001 they still haven’t announced a wedding date.

Like all long term couples they’ve weathered their share of break-up rumors, including several in 2007 when Latin American media announced they’d split, even though they’d just been spotted together in New York the day before. It was also rumored that they’d set a secret wedding date in September 2007, which, of course, didn’t happen.

Shakira stated last July that the couple are very happy together and their relationship is already like that of a married couple, they just “don’t need papers for that.”

Former Argentine President Fernando De La Rua – Shakira’s future father-in-law told the Dominican newspaper Listin Diario that while the couple is deeply in love, they are in no rush to tie the knot.

He says, “They prefer to wait. Kids today would rather live as a couple, they don’t believe that marriage is necessary to be happy.

“Shakira is a very good woman, she is very loving to her parents and with her in-laws as well.”

Shakira and lawyer Antonio began dating in 1999.
