Professor Gets Arrested For Closing Student’s Laptop

So you’re a professor, you are trying to enlighten the minds of the all the youth around you with your daily lectures. But alas not all your class is paying attention because one or two are too enthralled with the temptations of the Internet. You realize that the student is not typing away your notes but is probably bullshitting online. You walk over and close the lid of the computer. But Oh NO! Fingers are trapped –but not really, the student is in pain! –but not really. Is this assault? Is this battery? Apparently reaching over and closing the laptop of a student because he is not paying attention in class will lead to your arrest.

Seriously? The teacher, Dr. Rybicki, who teaches at the University of Valdosta was literally arrested and is now suspended for closing a student’s laptop. Are you kidding? Oh wait, they most certainly are not.

For the record, the students of Valdosta State University are for the most part standing behind the professor. Here are two comments made by students that stick out from the school newspaper’s site:

Jennifer Petkov Arrested For Assault

Jennifer Petkov, the Detroit woman who is now the subject of internet for posting death threats about her 7-year-old dying neighbor on Facebook, was arrested this week. She allegedly attempted to hit a neighbor with her car. The woman pressing charges wasn’t related to Kathleen Edward , the little girl Jennifer was tauniting, but she was on her way to visit the family.

Meanwhile, Petkov’s husband Scott has been suspended from his job as a forklift driver, and is likely to be fired, due to frequent letters sent to his employer by 4Chan members.

Jennifer has since been released on bail. But it’s also come out that Jennifer Petkov was placed on probation for disorderly conduct for six months on July 5, 2010.

As for the Edward family, there has been an outpouring of support, and this week Kathleen went on a $2000 shopping spree at Tree Town Toys in Ann Arbor, thanks to generous donations made by people who have learned of the story.

He may have had one of the hottest mugshots ever, but Chace Crawford isn’t getting off scot free after cops found one joint in a car he was riding in with a friend in Texas. Today the Gossip Girl star goes in front of a judge to be officially charged with the misdemeanor. So you know what that means ladies? If you live in Texas, hop on down to the local courthouse (you guys have just one, right?) and get a glimpse of Nate Archibald getting his ass handed to him.

Chace Crawford Arrested For Pot

Well, he can always claim he was just doing some character study: Chace Crawford from Gossip Girl was arrested in Texas last night when a cop pulled him and a friend over and found one unlit joint in their car. Which – while pot is bad, kids – is pretty innocuous as far as young celebrity drug arrests go. Chace is already out on bail, but not before TMZ got their hands on his booking photo, which may be one of the hottest in history.

Lindsay Lohan Makes Bail Before Arrest

In the ongoing saga of Lindsay Lohan‘s Jailgate 2010, the “actress” has posted $10,000 of her $100,000 bail after a warrant was issued for her arrest. For those of you keeping score at home, this warrant was issued after Lindsay failed to show up at her court hearing for a DUI, because she was stuck at Cannes after “losing” her passport (although she never reported it lost to the police, and seemed to be only searching for the thing on party boats that may or may not have been filled with cocaine). Now the warrant has been recalled and Lindsay is safe to return home to America, where she can promptly start avoiding all her other court dates and making lame excuses.

Hilary Duff’s Dad Arrested

Hilary Duff’s father, Robert Duff, was arrested last yesterday for contempt of court. Bob Duff has been sent by the judge to a Texas county jail. He has been ordered to spend 10 days in jail.

According to The Houston Chronicle, the contempt of court charge stems from a violation of a court injunction. The injunction stated that Bob Duff could not sell any of his assets without court approval, as part of the divorce agreement between Bob Duff and Susan Duff. He failed to get court approval when he sold some of his assets. Bob Duff’s bond is set at $367,537, the amount he earned from selling stocks last month.

A judge in Harris County was hearing the case on Wednesday – it ended with Bob Duff being escorted out in handcuffs with the contempt of court charge. The court meeting between Bob, Susan and their lawyers was heated with accusations of lying and unethical legal practice. Neither Hilary nor Haylie was in court for the hearing.

During the hearing, Susan Duff took the stand to ask for $25,000 to fund a present and party for Hilary Duff’s 21st birthday on September 28th – the same price that was spent by Bob for Haylie when she turned 21. Susan says the stipend from Bob is not enough to live by, let alone to throw a party, and that her lawyers are already being paid for by Hilary.

Susan Duff testified that Hilary Duff is "emotionally upset by the abandonment of her father" and should receive the funds for the birthday "to have some kind of recognition for a young life well-lived."

After Bob Duff was hand cuffed, Susan Duff gasped in shock and was heard to say "This isn’t what I wanted." Bob Duff wanted to speak with a reporter, but a gag order from the court prevents him from making public statements.
