“It was an amazing, life-changing experience for her,” Dina Lohan told PEOPLE on Saturday. “I’m so proud of Lindsay, that under all the scrutiny the tabloids put her under, she is a very strong, caring, talented girl who ignores all the negative, and continues to move forward in a positive direction. I am so proud of her.”

A short clip from the documentary, called “Lindsay Lohan in India,” was released on Friday. The documentary chronicles the her visit to India in December.

According to the BBC, Lohan meets with “young boys who work 16-hour days under the constant threat of beatings, …a reformed trafficker who would make a quick buck luring young girls…[and] a shelter where young girls promised domestic work for India’s burgeoning middle classes were trafficked into brothels and forced into prostitution.”

“As her trip draws to an end,” a BBC press release says, according to PEOPLE, “Lindsay questions whether the increasing demand for domestic help and consumer goods by India’s wealthy, coupled with the increasing poverty in rural India, , means there is any solution to this abominable trade.”

A few lucky fans got the opportunity to meet Lilo in the Taj Bengal’s The Junction on Dec. 10 - and she even posed with them for a photo and autograph, according to a story in the Telegraph India.

Before Lilo and her male friend left, the fans asked Lindsay for her autograph.

“How do you know each other,” Lindsay asked.

“We’re friends,” said the fan’s 27-year-old classmate from school.

Just friends?” Lindsay quizzed.

“She’s not my type,” the friend said and Lindsay broke into laughter but immediately took the other girl’s side. ‘That’s so mean,” she said. “But well, it’s okay because this is my friend (pointing at the man who was lighting up a cigarette next to her) and well, we’re not each other’s type at all!”

When the fan asked Lindsay how she liked Calcutta, Lindsay said they had took her to a place where she met lots of children, but the children didn’t have homes because of the floods. Lindsay said she even painted one little girl’s fingernails and gave the girl her phone number.

When the fan’s classmate jokingly threatened to cut her friend out of the photograph of the three of them, Lindsay laughed.
After the photo was taken, she told the fan:

“I leaned towards you.”

Lindsay has spent part of last week in India, working on a BBC documentary about the trafficking of children in India.

Lindsay is currently in India working with BBC documentary  about the trafficking of children.

It was Lindsay’s Twitter post on Dec. 9 that promoted the criticism. This post was deleted today.

“Over 40 children saved so far…… Within one day’s work…… This is what life is about….. Doing THIS is a life worth living!!!”

According to the Telegraph.co.uk, a leading social activist and lawyer named Bhuwan, who said Lindsay and the documentary crew wasn’t there for the child rescue organizations and wasn’t even in the country at the time.

While some are saying Lindsay or celebrities in general, do these kinds of things for publicity, I would have to disagree. Lindsay in particular gets plenty of publicity without doing a thing. She’s followed by papaparazzi every day. She DOES NOT need publicity.

Lindsay, and other celebrities, do charity work to bring their voice to problems in the world that people aren’t aware of. Her voice will be used for the publicity and more than likely they filmed her a little with the rescued children or children who had been rescued in the past. Celebrities help bring attention to problems being sweeped under the rug.
According to Bhuwan, the children were freed on Tuesday before Lohan arrived in India and a day before she and her BBC Three film crew visited the Ashram rehabilitation centre where the children were taken before being returned to their families, according to the story.

A BBC spokesman told the Telegraph:

“Lindsay Lohan has just completed filming in India for a BBC Three project on child trafficking. We would like to stress that she did not say she was present at the raid, this is a misinterpretation. She was merely referring to a raid that happened connected to child trafficking – the subject of the programme.”

I think Lindsay’s Tweet wasn’t saying “she” personally rescued 40 children. She was saying that while she was working on this project, 40 children had already been saved.

While on the red carpet at the 3rd Annual Rock the Kasbah Fundraising Gala at Vibiana in Los Angeles on Oct. 26, Lindsay told one camera crew about her plans to do the documentary. At that time they were still working out the dates, but she thought she would go before Thanksgiving.

“It all happened actually when I was in Dubai. I like to support charities. I think it’s important to have a voice when you do have one and you can make a difference,” Lindsay told a camera crew during the 3rd Annual Rock the Kasbah Fundraising Gala. “It’s on the trafficking of children and women in India.”

Lindsay says she was inspired by Richard Branson, the billionaire businessman who hosted the Virgin Unite even (Rock the Kasbah) which benefits the Eve Branson Foundation.

“I am a very big fan of the things that Richard Branson does,” Lindsay said. “I met him in Dubai (at the opening of the Atlantis, The Palm in December 2008, I guess). I really respect that he incorporates charity in all that he does.”

Lindsay said it will be worth it because it’s a good cause.

“I think that if you are in a position where you can say something people will listen to and make a difference — no matter what else gets said because I know I deal with that more than most people at this point — I think you should use it,” Lindsay said during the Rock the Kasbah event. “I think you should use your voice for the right reason. There’s no reason you shouldn’t. That’s what validates you at the end of the day. That when you get home and ‘oh, wow, I did something really good today. I feel good about myself’ no matter what – anything that happens. That’s what settles in.
