Earlier this week, the nominees for the 2011 Tony Awards were announced. But what are the Tony Awards, you ask? They’re one of many awards geared towards the theatre industry (others include the Drama Desk Awards and the Obie Awards). Monsters of Folk is a folk supergroup comprised of Bright Eyes’ Conor Oberst and Mike Mogis, My Morning Jacket’s Jim James and singer/songwriter M.Ward. The group has a self-titled debut album coming out on September 22. A track from the album is available for free on their website and it’s called “Say Please.” To get it go to the site and type “please” into the request form.

Paul Simon to Reopen the Beacon

Paul Simon to Reopen the Beacon

As previously mentioned, the Beacon Theatre has been closed for some time for restoration and is finally reopening next mnth. To celebrate, the venue had promised someone special as the first act to play since the closing, and they have come through with Paul Simon.

Simon will play at the Beacon on February 14 and 15. Tickets go on sale on January 25 at 9 a.m.
