The Beautiful Life, a drama surrounding the lives of young models in New York, made its debut on The CW on September 2009 but was canceled after two episodes. The show starred an ensemble cast including Mischa Barton, Sara Paxton, Ashley Madekwe, Ben Hollingsworth, Corbin Bleu and Nico Tortorella.

However, due to fan support, Beautiful Life executive producer Ashton Kutcher brought the show to YouTube, not only airing the first two episodes, but three unaired episodes with the formation of the TBL YouTube Channel.

With over 3 million views, Kutcher said the possibility of more episodes being made available online is possible. One episode is “already in the can,” Kutcher said, and more episodes could be made.

What is needed, according to Kutcher, is a threshold needs to be reached on the number of subscribers to the TBL YouTube Channel.

That means that fans need to get the word out that the show is available online! If the threshold of subscribers is reached, Kutcher said it would be cost-effective to make more episodes.

So if you haven’t had a chance, visit The Beautiful Life YouTube Channel and watch the five episodes that are available, or at least sign up as a subscriber. If you don’t have time right now to watch the show, at least visit the Channel and sign up. You can always come back later to watch the episodes.

The landlord is alleging in a suit that the last three month’s worth of rent haven’t been paid and is wanting the rent and legal fees.

According to the lawsuit, Mischa’s one-year lease on the Manhattan apartment started in September, during the time when Mischa was planning to live in NYC to film the TV show The Beautiful Life. But The CW canceled the show after two episodes.

Shortly after, Mischa returned back home to Los Angeles.

I’m wondering if Mischa tried to get out of the lease because of the show ending and was told she couldn’t.

For some reason this story is making big waves today on the news wires. It seems so menial and is more than likely a misunderstanding. I also question the timing — when Mischa is in NYC to film a guest star role on Law & Order: SVU.

Basically, the show has gotten a second life, according to a story by CNN.

“If we put this thing on the Web more than half a million people will watch it on the Web,” Kutcher said in a video message posted on YouTube last month. “I want this to be the first show ever that gets more viewers on the Web than it did on terrestrial television.”

The five episodes combined, including three that never aired on TV, have been viewed about 2.7 million times in the three weeks they have been available online, according to CNN.

The Beautiful Life is scheduled to run for six months on YouTube, according to the story.

“It’s important to keep in mind that online audiences watch when they want to watch, so this content will continue accumulating views during its six-month run,” George Strompolos, YouTube’s strategic partnership manager told CNN. “These videos are clearly much different than the two-minute viral clips that spread like wildfire across the Web. For an original long-form scripted drama being distributed online, this performance is very strong.”

Star Sara Paxton commented on the success of the experiment.

“It’s pretty exciting for our friends and family to be able to watch the episodes that never aired,” said Paxton. “After it was cancelled, a lot of fans were reaching out on Facebook and Twitter and asking where they could see the rest of the episodes. Now that it lives on the Internet, who knows what it will turn into. I don’t know what to expect out of it.”

With the success of the show online, Kutcher and partner Karey Burke are even considering other options for the show.

“Now that the airing of the episodes on YouTube has been as successful as it has been, there are conversations about continuing with the show in some form or fashion. We haven’t had any discussions with the CW about bringing the show back, but anything is possible,” Burke told CNN. “There certainly could be a short form version of the show that could live on the Web if our studio partners were interested in that and enough of the cast were interested.”

 We’ve already covered the first half of 2009 in Mischa Barton: 2009 in Review Part I, so here is a look at Mischa’s second half of 2009, which kicked off with her hospitalization.

 July-December 2009 in Mischa’s life:

In early July, a new Save the Children Bvlgaria campaign came out featuring Mischa as well as other celebrities.

On July 15, 2009, Mischa was taken to a hospital in Los Angeles, missing the premiere of her new movie Homecoming.  Once in the hospital, Mischa was kept on an “involuntary psychiatric hold” called a 5150. Not much was said about why she was there, though there was lot of speculation.

Making matters worse, production for Mischa’s new show The Beautiful Life was pushed back from July 22 to July 31. But according to the producers, the delay was not caused by Mischa’s hospitalization.

Mischa’s rep finally talked to the media a little, saying she left the hospital and was doing better. TBL executive producer Ashton Kutcher was nice enough to go on record as well and say Mischa was doing better.

On July 28, Mischa was spotted at JFK airport in New York arriving for TBL production to start.

It was announced that Mischa’s 2007 movie St. Trinian’s would be given a limited release in the U.S. in August.

On July 30, photos of Mischa were taken outside of the TV studios where she was working. These photos of Mischa in a white fringe vest are some of my favorite from 2009. She looked really good, which helped the rumors start to die down about her recent hospitalization. It wasn’t until Mischa started promoting her show in September before we heard in her own words why she was hospitalized.

At a Music Unites party in New York, Mischa told OK! magazine that she was “really happy.”

Ashton Kutcher and others defended Mischa at the Television Critic Association’s Summer Press Tour while promoting The Beautiful Life.

In early August, Mischa and others starring in The Beautiful Life were photographed Gossip Girl-style while filming scenes on the streets of New York City. Mischa was wearing a sparkly gold and silver Versace gown and featured in a carriage-Cinderella-like scene. If you look back through the August 2009 posts, you will find lots of TBL shots of Mischa and other members of the cast.

In mid-August, The CW released more photos from the show.

While on set, Mischa was caught on video slipping while stepping down from a trailer. Poor Mischa!

Later in the month, Mischa attended the JC Penney-Charlotte Ronson “I Heart Ronson” event in NYC.

The CW tried to be creative in marketing the show with “naked promos” of some of the TBL stars. New promos of TBL  started appearing on TV.

In late August, Mischa talked to Time Out New York about the new show and her breakdown.

Ever since The Beautiful Life was picked up, TBL star Ashley Madekwe (she played a model named Marissa) has written a couple of blog posts and has Tweeted about her experience. Here is one of her posts about working on the show.

The Beautiful Life creator Mike Kelly and executive producer Karey Burke discussed the new show and Mischa during a special Q&A panel.

In early September, Mischa was spotted posing for a magazine shoot. Those photos were actually for her Donna Moderna magazine spread, which are really beautiful.

She also was seen at a party with TBL co-stars Sara Paxton and Nico Tortorella. Photographers also snapped a photo of Mischa standing next to Gossip Girl star Taylor Momsen.

In early September, Mischa appeared on The View to promote the show. To me, this is a painful interview to watch. They asked her a lot of questions about her hospitalization. At the time, I don’t think she did a good job answering the questions. But later in magazine articles, when she had time to reflect on what she went through, she did better. Mischa said complications with her botched wisdom teeth surgery caused the problems that led to her hospitalization, along with the stress of everything going on in her life.

During Fashion Week in New York, Mischa looked really good. This is Mischa at the LaCoste show. She also was dressed in black for the Mercedes-Benze show. Here’s a lacy black dress she wore to the Marc Jacobs show during Fashion Week. She dressed differently for the Fashion Week closing party.

At The Beautiful Life premiere party, Mischa was pretty in pink, as Ashton Kutcher, wife Demi Moore and the rest of the cast were on hand.

In mid-September, Mischa appeared on It’s On with Alexa Chung show for MTV. This was a really fun interview.

On September 16, The Beautiful Life premiered on The CW. Some of the TBL cast Tweeted during the broadcast.

The CW released TBL cast interviews for its website in celebration of the new show.

Mischa was spotted with one of her favorite designers Zac Posen at the opening night of the opera. Posen made a guest appearance in the first TBL episode.

The second episode “The Beautiful Aftermath” aired on September 23.

Unfortunately, The Beautiful Life was canceled two days after the second episode aired for low ratings. The cast was actually on set when they learned the news. I’m sure they were upset as many cast members have said future episodes were pretty juicy. I was upset because I was having fun covering Mischa’s return to TV. It was a whirlwind that ended too soon.

Besides a few photos here and there of Mischa at various events, from this point on, photographers rarely caught Mischa in film through the end of the year. Occasionally she would be spotted walking her dogs.

Assassination of a High School President featuring Mischa was released on DVD on Oct. 6. Mischa was event featured on Mr. Skin’s list.

At the Sony-Vaio launch in early October, Mischa did make a splash.

In mid-October, she was seen on the red carpet at the 2009 Whitney Museum Gala. She told media she would probably pass on TV roles in the future. Of course, she was fresh from the cancellation, so I don’t blame her.

In late October, Mischa made an appearance at a Gucci event. She also looked beautiful at the Georgina Chapman for Gerrard Collection launch.

In November, Mischa looked sexy at the Mr. Chow celebration. At this event, Mischa told US magazine she was disappointed that the show was canceled because they had a lot of upcoming storylines that were really good. Mischa also said she was “figuring out her next move” and TV and movies were options once again.

Mischa was spotted out and about in LA in November and early December and appears to have a new hairdo and possibly a new puppy.

In early December, it was announced that The Beautiful Life episodes – including episodes that did not air – would be available to watch on YouTube on Dec. 17.

In December, UK magazine Heat released an issue featuring Mischa, who talked about a lot of things in her interview, including her hospitalization. She also talked about her breakdown in UK’s OK! magazine.

On Dec. 17, Ashton Kutcher and iJustine made a YouTube announcement about the launch of the TBL YouTube Channel, where you can view five episodes of The Beautiful Life. This is pretty cool. I don’t think this has happened before to a canceled show where they put the unaired episodes on YouTube!

As part of the YouTube launch with HP’s Create Change campaign, Mischa announced her “Beautiful Change for 2010.”

Mischa’s last sighting in 2009 was on Dec. 28 where she was spotted dining. Later, she was photographed leaving a movie theater.

Due to the economy punching the movie industry pretty hard, some of Mischa’s independent movies made before 2009 didn’t have much movement in the past year. Her 2008 movie You and I has yet to be released. Don’t Fade Away, a movie she made with True Blood star Ryan Kwanten, hasn’t been released either. Homecoming was supposed to be available on DVD in December, but it’s not available anywhere yet. A release date for the 2009 movie Bhopal: A Prayer for Rain has yet to be released as well.

Mischa will play a hooker named Gladys in an episode set to air March 3. Her character is hiding a secret that will be complicating for Mariska Hargitay’s Benson, TV Guide said.

The interesting part is SVU executive producer Neal Baer has been twittering clues about Mischa’s casting. His clues were Bongo, Singer and Austin.

TV Guide reporter William Keck was thinking the guest star was Matthew McConaughey, but Bauer called the writer to exclusively reveal Mischa’s casting.

Bauer said Mischa’ has played characters with those last three names – way in the past. She played Katie Singer on Once and Again, Betty Ann Bongo on animated series Kablam! and Vicky Austin in a TV movie called A Ring of Endless Light. Would you have guessed Mischa? I wouldn’t have.

Now, throw out some references to The O.C., and we would have been all over it.

Bauer told TV Guide he has been a fan of Mischa since she was a child actress in The Sixth Sense.

This of course, will be Mischa’s first work on TV since the cancellation of The Beautiful Life in September. It’s a good start.

Here’s a look at Mischa’s first six months in 2009:

Peeling back the pages on the calendar, in January of 2009, Mischa was filming Bhopal: A Prayer for Rain in India with Martin Sheen. There hasn’t been a release date for the movie yet, but the movie is completed. Bhopal recently held a 25th anniversary of the event, so maybe it will come out in 2010.

Mischa also launched her online boutique in January – www.mischabartonhandbags.com

Towards the end of January, Mischa returned to Paris and became a spokesperson for Herbal Essence. On Jan. 24, 2009, Mischa celebrated her 23rd birthday.

Mischa attended Paris Fashion Week events at the end of January, looking very thin and sparking a whole bunch of rumors about her weight.

And if that wasn’t a busy enough month for Mischa, she was spotted with The Kooks singer Luke Pritchard.

The last few days of January and early February, Mischa came home to Los Angeles. Mid-February she was spotted at Michael Williamson’s opening in New York. She also enjoyed attended Fashion Week in New York.

In late February, Mischa was cast in the movie The Science of Cool. This movie is still in its early stages and has yet to start filming.

In March, previews and photos of Mischa’s movie straight-to-DVD movie Walled In came out. There also was a rumor that Mischa could be cast in Melrose Place.

In early March, Mischa and Luke Pritchard broke up, but remained friends.

Around March 12, 2009, Mischa was cast in the role of Sonya on The CW’s model drama The Beautiful Life. That was the end of the Melrose Place rumors.

During early 2009, Mischa was active with her new website mischabarton.com, that she rarely posts too now, and even used Twitter occasionally.

Mischa did several magazine interviews and photoshoots in 2009, most of them in the UK. Among them were the Blackbook shoot, UK’s Cosmopolitan, and FHM, ASOS, among others.

In April, more news started coming out about The Beautiful Life and Mischa went to Milan to promote Herbal Essence.

In late April, Mischa launched a new handbag label in London. She also attended the FiFi UK Fragrance Awards and the BAFTA Awards show in London.

Mischa’s newest hair accessories line with Stacey Lapidus also came out in late April.

Mischa’s thriller movie Homecoming was set for a July limited release in mid-May.

But the biggest news in May, or in the whole year really, was when The CW announced it was picking up The Beautiful Life!

At the end of May, Mischa promoted Herbal Essence in Russia and she made plans to move to New York City before production on The Beautiful Life started in mid-July. We also got to see the Homecoming trailer.

More magazine interviews included Glamour Italy.

In June, we learned Mischa’s movie Assassination of a High School President would be going to DVD in October.

In mid-June, a kick-off party for The Beautiful Life and The Vampire Diaries was held in New York, but Mischa wasn’t present. Later, we learned The Beautiful Life would make its debut on Wednesday, Sept. 16.

Also in June, new photos were released to celebrate Mischa’s new handbags.

Mischa’s FanForum celebrated 200,000 posts in June too.

In late June, Mischa was a special guest at the Harrod’s Summer Sale in London. Later there would be rumors that her face was bloated in some of the photos and that she acted strangely during interviews. This was probably when her dental work was done that led to her hospitalization in July.

But it appears that our girl Mischa has been back and forth between Los Angeles and New York with her new bangs and slightly darker hair color.

The bad news is that I don’t actually have access to the latest photos of Mischa so I will have to link to them instead (thanks to Mischa-B.com)

Going back a weeks to Dec. 12, Mischa was spotted leaving 169 Bar in New York. Mischa is wearing a black overcoat that looks really good on her, but it does cover up the majority of her outfit. It appears that she is wearing a green plaid skirt with brown leggings. I can’t tell what kind of top she’s wearing.

On Dec. 28, Mischa was spotted twice in West Hollywood. She was first spotted having dinner with a few people at Joan’s on Third. Later, she was seen leaving Arc Light movie theater where she watched the new movie Avatar. In the first set of photos, she is wearing a white ruffled top under her plaid brown blazer, which looks good. At the movies, she still has the blazer on but she has a different top with an Aztec look underneath, mixed with leggings. I like the first look better.

There are 304 screen captures for episode four and 390 screen captures for episode 5 featuring Mischa, who plays model Sonja Stone.

These episodes are among the TBL episodes that were completed but did not air on The CW because the show was canceled after the second episode.

Now, five episodes of the show (including the last three which were unaired) are now available on the TBL YouTube Channel. The pilot episode already has close to 500,000 views and the other episodes are catching up as well.

Visually, I like how the video was done – how the photos slide up and down and match well with the “Take It Off” theme.

Mischa starred as fallen supermodel Sonja Stone in the canceled series that was cut after only two episodes.

Much of the third episode had to do with Sonja hiding her “baby” secret by giving a member of the paparazzi something else to run with – an old photo of her doing coke. In fact, when Sonja looks at how the paparazzi runs with the old photo, it looks like she is looking at Perez Hilton’s blog, who enjoys making fun of the real Mischa quite a bit.
