Throbbing Gristle, Britain’s most famous industrial rockers who defined a genre in the late 70s, are coming to the US for a short tour for the first time since 1981. The band broke up in 1981 and reformed in 2004 but did not come to the US. Crazily enough, the band has NEVER been to New York or even to the East Coast! So…this is pretty huge.

First he will be at the Wellmont Theater in NJ on March 16. Then he will be at the Bowery Ballroom (!!) on March 21, at Webster Hall March 25, and at Carnegie Hall on March 26. Phew! So many festivals this summer, so little time. If you’re into jazz though, this one’s for you. The JVC Jazz Festival will be in in NY June 15-28 at various venues. They have a wide variety of performers and somewhat loose interpretation of jazz–artists as diverse as Gil Scott-Heron, Maceo Parker, Jill Scott, Al Green, Soulive, Herbie Hancock, and Brad Mehldau will be performing. Two stellar bands played the ornate Brooklyn Masonic Temple on Friday night: Brooklyn locals Yeasayer and Philly’s extravagant Man Man.
Yeasayer are a tight, pulsating band that easily got the crowd pumped up. They played excellent songs like “2080″ and “Sunrise.”

Thursday night saw a Israel-gypsy-funky party at the Brooklyn Masonic Temple. Openers Chin Chin got the energy up with their horn section and dancers on stilts that jiggled their way through the audience.
The Temple is a great place to see a show. Similar to the Warsaw, it is a beautiful old building with ornate chandeliers and ceiling work with a large open room with a stage. The Temple even has a balcony with ancient wooden fold-down seats.
