When New York Shitty posted this photo of an MTV casting notice snapped in Greenpoint yesterday, I did a double take. In addition to using embarrassing terminology (“hipstra” sounds like some sort of record collecting she-demon), it contains two images that are almost a decade old. More »
Brad Pitt has something of a “finders, keepers” thing going on with several upcoming film projects: Just because his production company Plan B picks up a project, doesn’t mean that Pitt is the best choice for the lead role. He’s matched himself to the unlikely part of the narrator of World War Z, and now the Latino priest from The Sparrow. More »
The latest Hunger Games casting news doesn’t concern one of the 24 tributes, but it’s a very pivotal character: Primrose Everdeen, Katniss’ younger sister who originally gets chosen for the Hunger Games. Katniss’ decision to take her place spurs into motion the events of the first book (and really, the whole trilogy). More »
District 1 has its tributes: Jack Quaid (son of Dennis Quaid and Meg Ryan) and Leven Rambin (Sloan’s daughter Sloan on Grey’s Anatomy) will play Marvel and Glimmer in The Hunger Games. In the series, District 1 is one of the richer districts because it manufactures luxury goods for the Capitol. In keeping with the lush lifestyle, the children receive strange names. But don’t think they’re softies: Katniss nicknames the District 1 tributes “Careers” because of how they band together during training. Of course, there can be only one champion. More »
Lionsgate has just announced the two newest members of The Hunger Games cast: Dayo Okeniyi and Amandla Stenberg will play Thresh and Rue, District 11′s tributes. Both are unknowns; Okeniyi has appeared in two indie projects, and Stenberg did some dubbing work for movies like Why Did I Get Married Too? Thresh and Rue represent the agriculture-centered District 11, located somewhere in what used to be the South. (I guess our “opposite day” pick of Noah Cyrus for Rue didn’t make the cut…) More »
Lionsgate continues to confound us with its casting choices for the March 2012 adaptation of The Hunger Games. Since this epic story comes to us in a book, each of the thousands of readers has a specific view of what each character should look like, yet you would think that there would be enough similarity for an actor to satisfy most fans. But instead, the movie’s casting directors seem to have chosen actors — Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth, Josh Hutcherson — who look the complete opposite from their characters’ physical descriptions. We’ve decided to help out and provide actors who may have the chops to play these characters, but look nothing like them. More »
In a piece that we’re convinced is just pandering to Green Lantern fans, Blake Lively reveals how she was given the chance to keep her lovely blond locks while playing Carol Ferris, but she “insisted” on dying her hair brown. What a trooper! More »
Bret McKenzie, one half of the comedy-singer duo Flight of the Conchords, is no stranger to Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings films. In fact, the New Zealand-born McKenzie appeared as an extra in the trilogy, named “Figwit” (“Frodo is great… who is that?!”) by the fans. With The Hobbit now shooting in NZ, McKenzie will reprise his role, in a sense — he’ll play not Figwit, but a Rivendell elf named Lindir. More »
Suzanne Collins is “thrilled” with the latest Hunger Games casting choices. – The author says she was in the room when Josh Hutcherson auditioned: “Josh totally captured Peeta’s temperament, his sense of humor and his facility for language.” (Entertainment Weekly)
Lionsgate’s The Hunger Games now has its three leads. We already know that Jennifer Lawrence (who’ll be appearing in X-Men: First Class) will play Katniss Everdeen, but now The Kids Are All Right‘s Josh Hutcherson has signed on as Peeta Mellark, and Liam Hemsworth (Miley Cyrus‘ ex, who appeared with her in The Last Song) will round out the book’s love triangle as Gale Hawthorne. Emma Stone is reportedly in talks to play Ryan Gosling’s love interest in a new movie. Steve Carell would play her dad. So, basically, Emma Stone is in talks to be in the fantasy version of Crushable’s life. You know how picky we are about Ryan’s ladies, but since this is for a fictional relationship, okay fiiiine. It will be nice to see Emma hold her own against a comedy heavyweight like Steve Carell, and the eight-year age difference between… More »

Take a look at this equation: Kristen Wiig’s first starring role + Freaks and Geeks masterminds = new movie for Universal Pictures. What’s that you say? The greatest movie that has ever existed, ever? Not too fast. Sure, it sounds great on paper. But will it actually turn out to be any good?
The first problem: The plot “is described as revolving around women competing to plan a friend’s wedding party.” Wow, women getting catty about something wedding related? That sounds… More »
Gatecrasher reported yesterday that Alex McCord and Simon Van Kempen, the social climbing couple of Real Housewives of New York City may not be returning for the fourth season of that show. Keep in mind, season three hasn’t even aired yet! The source says that Alex is on the chopping block because “viewers don’t have a positive reaction to them, so they’re easily replaceable at this point.” Ouch. Another rumor is that Simon threw a “hissy fit” because he wasn’t… More »
