Video: Britney Spears’ Son Dances To ‘Shake Your Groove Thing’

Whatever other criticisms people might reasonably make of Britney Spears, she was, at least for a while, a very good dancer, and it seems she’s passed that gene down to her son Sean Preston.

In a video Brit Brit posted to Youtube on Friday, her oldest son Sean Preston can be seen dancing his little heart out to the disco song “Shake Your Groove Thing,” even getting annoyed when his brother gets in the way of the TV. It’s not just some random little kid dance, either; he appears to have learned some decently complex moves from the video that would most likely be beyond the grasp of most six-year-olds. It makes even more sense when you remember that his dad Kevin Federline started out as a back-up dancer. He’s got it on both sides! Let’s just hope he did not inherit his dad’s penchant for fame-whoring or terrible white boy hip-hop.

Lest you think that Tom Cruise‘s famous dances in Risky Business and Tropic Thunder are all thanks to editing, at a wedding over the weekend the actor showed that he can still get down. He and Katie Holmes were at the wedding of David Ellison, a producer on Tom’s new movie Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, when one of David’s friends decided to challenge the A-list actor and Scientologist.

Surprisingly, Tom was game and didn’t slip a disc on the dance floor. Despite the general shudders we get when thinking about his fervent Scientology teachings, we have to admit it’s a cute video.

Ever wondered how we got from Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire to Napoleon Dynamite‘s dance routine? YouTube user mewlists, who brought you the “25 best unscripted scenes” video that we posted a few days ago, has compiled 100 iconic dance sequences that span 90 years of film. In-between the ones mentioned above are such new classics as Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie‘s steamy tango from Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Billy Elliot giving in to the music, and Steve Carell and co. gallivanting to “The Age of Aquarius” at the end of The 40-Year-Old Virgin.

Who knew there was so much dance in so many genres of film? You’ve got musical, indie comedy, parody, rom-com, animated… Dance really is the great unifier.

Video: Two Dancers Dressed as Mario and Luigi Do a Fantastic ‘Super Mario Bros.’ Swing Dance

Swing dancing’s pretty cool in a time-long-past way, right? And we all grew up with Super Mario Bros. on our Gameboys or Wiis. Bet you never thought they could be combined! Dancers Morgan Day and Emily Wigger debuted this amazing mash-up at the Camp Hollywood 2011 National Jitterbug Championship; there have been a couple grainy versions going around the Internet, but here’s a high-quality version from Swing! The Documentary. What’s incredible is the amount of detail that went into planning this routine: The choreography matches the gameplay of sliding down pipes and eating magic mushrooms, yet still looks like swing.

Also, it takes major balls for these two to stay out on the dance floor in their Mario and Luigi costumes even after the music shorts out and they’re standing there in silence. But it’s obvious that the entire crowd is supporting them not only in their geeky choice of costume and music, but as dancers, too.

Poll: Is Matthew Morrison’s NKOTBSB Tour Dancing Fun Or Just Pathetic?

Despite getting his start as superb dancer Link Larkin in Broadway’s Hairspray, Matthew Morrison must have a contractual obligation that forces him to give all of the dance scenes on Glee to the kids. We know this because he breaks into dance at every other chance he gets: On Oprah, on Jay Leno, and now at the NKOTBSB tour. He’s opening for the New Kids on the Block/Backstreet Boys supergroup, but his moves just don’t seem to be up to snuff.

Morrison works some Michael Jackson crotch-grabbing into his routine and is definitely channeling Patrick Swayze from Dirty Dancing, but for the most part there’s a lot of fluttering and twirling. Sure, it was a showtune (“Don’t Stop Dancing”), but Morrison’s strengths are when he’s proving that white boys can breakdance — not practicing his triple lutz for the figure skating finals.

Little did Kate Middleton know when she said “I do” that she would be marrying into a family of such phenomenal dancers. And by “phenomenal,” I mean oh so wonderfully awkward. I think it’s Prince Charles’ ears that do it (it usually is). I wonder if Wills and Harry are aware of this little piece of their father’s past? I mean, everyone’s allowed to have a few skeletons stashed in some well-hidden closets, but this is one truly spectacular surprise.

This season on Dancing with the Stars, every single week has been a theme week. I’m okay with occasional theme weeks on the show if they push people outside of their comfort zones – classical week was great because people couldn’t rely on the lyrics to help them keep their timing, and it ended up upping everyone’s game – but when you have one every single week it just starts to look gimmicky. But Dancing with the Stars is nothing if not gimmicky, so here we go. The theme is “guilty pleasures,” so each of the contestants is supposed to dance to their favorite guilty pleasure song.

Kendra Wilkinson‘s guilty pleasure is “Livin’ La Vida Loca.” That works out nicely since she has the samba this week. After getting dinged by the judges and the audience for not working hard enough and complaining, she seems to be working overtime to make it look like she’s having fun. The woman has Louis Amstel for a partner, so she should be ecstatic, but I guess Kendra didn’t call Kelly Osbourne for moral support. Her samba was solid with a heavy emphasis on shaking it, and the always-NSFW judge Bruno Tonioli said that her dance was “attack of the boobs.”
