What exactly is Snooki and The Situation doing at the CMT Music Awards? Our thoughts exactly. We don’t know! But hey, if it distracts attention from Danny Gokey’s unfortunate Downey-lite ensemble, then we’ll take it. Other stars who hit the CMTs: Carrie Underwood, Taylor Swift, Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, Julianne Hough and that hot dude from Lady Antebellum.

American Idol season 8 contestant, Danny Gokey, must be thrilled at the fact that he has officially been signed by 19 Recordings/RCA Nashville! This makes him the last of the top 4 contestants for that season to be signed with a record label, following Allison Iraheta, Adam Lambert and winner Kris Allen. Actually, Danny is making history because this is the first time that Idol’s label has signed the top four contestants of a single season!. Joe Galante,… More »
Former season seven finalist, Michael Sarver, filmed some behind-the-scenes action as the Top 13 prepared to take the stage for the last two episodes of American Idol this year. Unfortunately, as is the case with most things related to this show, there is a bit of a “scandal” going around regarding this video. Michael originally uploaded it to his MySpace account but pulled it down after he realized that something was said that could be considered offensive. Danny Gokey… More »
Backstage after his elimination, Danny Gokey, told Jillian Barberie that just 10 months ago he was sitting at his wife’s casket and that he didn’t know where to go but now, it seemed that the world has opened up to him. That’s amazing. Paula Abdul was crying and it was just a really emotional departure. Watch this video: Since then, he told Billboard that he wants to “start a movement” with his music and went on to… More »
It was a drama-filled evening over at the judges’ table on American Idol last night with the bickering and subtle insults starting with the very first performance. Danny Gokey sang “Dance Little Sister” (chosen by Paula) and the judges seemed to like it but Kara criticized his dancing. Paula didn’t miss a bit and said “I’m a choreographer” and I believe he was “really good.” Meow. Kris Allen sang “Apologize” (chosen by Kara and Randy) and Kara… More »
Danny Gokey chose to sing “You Are So Beautiful” which was originally made famous by Joe Cocker. After losing his wife, I can’t believe that he can sing these super emotional songs. I thought his voice sounding so amazing and I loved the arrangement. I think that was my favorite performance by Danny this season. Randy said that he loved that Danny showed that he’s in the competition because he can really, really, really sing. Kara said… More »
American Idol judge, Paula Abdul, was in charge of one of the song choices for Top 3 contestant, Danny Gokey. She picked “Dance Little Sister” by Terence Trent D’Arby and I think it was a corny and dumb selection. She could have picked something that the audience would have been more familiar with while allowing Danny to be who he is. I didn’t like it but I think Danny did the very best that he could with what he was… More »
Can you believe that we are already at the Top 3 on American Idol? The eighth season has really flown by and I’m really excited. Tonight, the boys will perform two songs (including one chosen by the judges) and there are a lot of rumors about what they will sing spreading across the internet this morning. I have no idea if any of it is true but Adam Lambert might sing “One” by U2 or… More »
This week, we get to see the American Idol season 8 finalists, Adam Lambert, Kris Allen and Danny Gokey going home for their homecoming celebrations! It looks like it’s going to be an emotional episode and I really can’t wait. I love those hometown episodes because the contestants really get to see how far they’ve come from being in relative obscurity at the supermarket to sheer pandemonium at their old high school. Watch this preview from Good Day L.A.: … More »
Danny Gokey took on a huge risk singing Aerosmith’s hit “Dream On.” The choice really shocked me but I always say “go big or go home.” Slash said that “it could go either way” and I couldn’t agree more! It started a little rough but then he got into it and it’s hard to find fault with him since he tried something so difficult when this is clearly not his genre. Still, I just don’t know how… More »
For “Rat Pack Week” the mentor was Jamie Foxx. They chose him because he has transcended the barriers in the industry by going from a television star, to winning an Academy Award (Ray) and a successful musician. Kris Allen was the first to perform, singing “The Way You Look Tonight.” I thought it was a great performance and Jamie Foxx had some great things to say about him. Allison Iraheta sang “Someone To Watch Over… More »
Danny Gokey sang “Come Rain or Come Shine” and mentor, Jamie Foxx, said he was watching Danny so closely that he might have creeped him out. He said that he got right up in Danny’s face and that’s when he sang his best (it was hilarious). I loved the horns that Danny had with him and he looked really great! How many glasses does this man own? I liked the simplicity of his delivery but I really enjoyed… More »
Danny Gokey chose to sing “September” and I think it was a decent song choice and he definitely can sing but it did lack originality. I think that if he’s going to continue to do well in this competition, he’s going to have to get more creative.
Randy said that he turned the song into something that works for him. Kara said she was worried about what he would do for Disco Week but said that his pitch is so right… More »
A one-hour documentary called From Idol to Inspiration will air on the Gospel Music Channel this Thursday, April 23, 2009. The film “explores the effect of the Fox network singing competition on Christian music.” I think that is an interesting topic because I have thought about it myself over the years. There are times, actually, when I’ve thought that Idol had a greater impact on Gospel and Country music than within the Pop genre. Several familiar… More »
Danny Gokey chose to sing “Endless Love” which I’m sure must have a difficult performance. I’m sure his mind was on his wife, who tragically passed away less than a year ago. Paula said that he’s unique and unforgettable and that it was a beautiful rendition. Simon said that he was disappointed that he chose to do such a traditional arrangement of the song. image © 2009 FOX BROADCASTING CR: Michael Becker / FOX… More »
Danny Gokey was born in 1980 and chose to sing an updated version of “Stand By Me” from that year. I thought it was a very good choice for his voice and I liked the arrangement. I thought he did an excellent job. Randy said that he wasn’t a big fan of the arrangement but that Danny is such a good singer that he made him love it anyway. Kara said that he made it a three… More »
It was Motown Week on American Idol and it wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be. Honestly, in the past there have been some real disasters in the past with this genre but it was pretty good. Matt Giraud kicked off the night with his rendition of “Let’s Get it On” and, I thought it was pretty good, but I did think there were some flaws. Still, I love Matt’s voice but I… More »
Danny Gokey chose to sing “Get Ready” and I feel like it might be too fast of a song for him to really let loose the way he likes to. Still, it ended up being a relatively good, very energetic performance. He even did a little Motown-style dancing with the backup singers. Anyone notice how this baseline was modified from the original? I loved that! Paula said that she loves him and he gives a first-class performance every week. … More »
