CMJ Shows and Parties
CMJ, the awesome New York City festival a la Austin’s South by Southwest, is coming up next week, from Tuesday, October 20 to Saturday, October 24! Hundreds of bands are playing at hundreds of venues around the city. You can buy a badge that should get you in to most shows, or you can buy individual tickets to shows, or for some shows you can buy tickets at the door. Free Show at Brooklyn Bowl And More
In case you haven’t heard, an awesome new venue opened up in Williamsburg (61 Wythe Ave.) last month. Brooklyn Bowl is a bowling alley, has food from Blue Ribbon, and also hosts performances. Toinght there is a FREE show with Alberta Cross and Phonograph at 8 pm.

NY Times Reports on McCarren; Yo La Tengo Playing Last Free Show
The New York Times has an article about the future of McCarren Park Pool…and how it seems like it will be turned back into a pool. Supposedly constructions starts this fall and they hope to open it for summer 2011. So, get your kicks in now. A.A. Bondy and Jaymay Played Last Night
The Bowery Ballroom hosed two great singer/songwriters last night. Deer Tick opened, who are supposed to be great but I missed them. Did anyone catch them?
A.A. Bondy played next, to a pretty sparse crowd actually. His voice is beautiful and he is clearly very skilled on the guitar and harmonica but all I could think was “Bob Dylan rip-off” the whole time…
