Demi Lovato’s Mom Might Be Worse Than Dina Lohan

Rumors have been swirling for a few weeks now that troubled Disney starlet, Demi Lovato, is going in and out of rehab to deal with some pretty serious addictions. On top of those rumors are rumors that her PR team keeps pulling her out of rehab to prove those rumors wrong. I know, I know, it’s a sick, twisted web of rumors that have been continuously denied by her PR team and simultaneously promoted by BlindGossip.com.

While it’s impossible for us to separate fact from fiction, let’s just err on the side of Hollywood cynicism and Disney’s fantastic child-star-transitioning-to-adult track record and assume Demi really is checking in and out of rehab.

And if we assume that, then we can also safely assume that her mother, Dianna Hart De La Garza, is throwing her hat in the ring to win the highly coveted title: Death be Damned, I’ll Most Definitely Sacrifice My Child(ren) to Make Money. Former contestants include: Kate Gosselin, Courtney Love and the current title holder, Dina Lohan. The prize? A highly coveted Us Weekly cover story and a 90% guarantee that you’ll one day be featured in either an E!‘s Worst Parents Ever countdown or a Lifetime movie. So yes, it’s totally worth it.

What do you need to even be in the running?

1. A former child star with a problem. Bear in mind, while any problem will get you accepted into the running, it definitely helps if the problem involves drugs, alcohol or a healthy combination of the two.

2. Denial. So much denial! Like take your denial and multiply it by infinity. Then you’ll almost have enough denial.

3. The attitude of Rehab, schmehab.

4. A spare child star. Because just in case the first one doesn’t get you enough headlines, it’s nice to have another (cough, cough Madison De La Garza) waiting in the wings.

But in all seriousness, really? C’mon Dianna. If Demi is as sick as all these rumors are claiming, she needs help — not headlines. Pull it together and you might just get a Mother’s Day card this year.

Lindsay Lohan Tells Playboy She Wishes She’d Listened To Her Mentors

After Lindsay Lohan‘s nude Playboy shoot got leaked last week, Hugh Hefner made the executive decision to release the spread and the accompanying article early. You can now buy it in newsstands or read it online with an electronic subscription; with the excitement over her nudes gone, now quotes from the interview itself are starting to circulate online.

What’s impressive is that the interview (judging by the snippets, at least) didn’t seem to be entirely a puff piece. They could’ve run it without any quotes and still sold thousands of issues, but instead we get a Lindsay who seems to be somewhat self-reflective. She talks about emulating her icon Marilyn Monroe, both in terms of the style of the shoot and actually dropping trou, but she also acknowledges that she fucked up after her Mean Girls success. Even though there were people out there to help her, she only followed her enablers:

Looking back, I probably would have listened to and taken more advice from the people whom I admire and would have followed through with it more. My stubbornness at 18 and 19 years old got in the way. During the past five years, I’ve learned that time flies faster than you think, and because you only live once you have to learn from your mistakes, live your dreams and be accountable.

What’s funny is that she also has the nerve to comment on the symbiotic relationship between certain celebrities and the press, even though her mother Dina Lohan clearly orchestrates paparazzi run-ins:

I have no idea why there is this fascination with everything I do. I suppose it is all part of this trend of people wanting to know every single detail of a celebrity’s life. I mean, once we get to the point where magazines are doing pictorials on my wardrobe to court, that’s just so unimportant.

Unimportant, maybe. Valuable? Sadly, yes.

Star magazine and RadarOnline are reporting that they’ve gotten their mitts on Lindsay Lohan‘s private diary and that it reveals that Linds was madly in love with dearly departed star Heath Ledger. Whether they were actually physically involved is unclear, but the January 22, 2008 entry from a 21-year-old Lindsay reads (in pink pen, natch):

Today Heath died. I’m in love with him…. He was the love of my life. He taught me so much, and he was everything I’ve ever wanted and more.

I want to hear him laugh and hold me. I crave his touch and care.

When a person dies the world stops. I’m numb.

Now, “obtained” could mean anything from a resourceful paparazzo sneaking into Lindsay’s home, to Dina Lohan turning over her daughter’s pink-penned ramblings for the press to feast on. But let’s assume it’s real.

Star goes on to say that Lindsay and Heath were so close that she had plans to visit him in New York City just a few days after his death. Indeed, the world did notice Lindsay grieving (see the photo) but didn’t think much of it in light of the grief of Heath’s ex-girlfriend (and mother of his child) Michelle Williams. Ironically, there was some surprise about who he had been seeing at the time of his death, but that was Mary-Kate Olsen.

That said, the rumors definitely existed. Back in 2007, an Australian magazine claimed that Lindsay and Heath had a “purely physical” friends-with-benefits deal going on. However, sites like Technorati pointed out that the only “relationship” the two might have had was the notoriously hard-partying Lindsay supplying Heath with drugs.

Astonishingly, the person this most lends credence to is Michael Lohan. Back in 2008, he was shopping around recorded phone conversations with Dina, which alleged a romantic and dangerous mentor-mentee relationship between Heath and their daughter. RadarOnline (no surprise) published a transcript of one call in which Dina lays out her fears:

Because when she’s drunk or takes an Adderall with it she will do something like Heath Ledger did in a second without thinking. And she was dating Heath when he died. I don’t know if you know that, but I know cause I would drop her off and they were friends very, very close, ok? So that fucked her up.

Perez Hilton makes an observation that fills in another puzzle piece: Why LiLo was so angry when Michelle Williams nabbed the role of Marilyn Monroe in My Week with Marilyn. Not only did Michelle get to be the love of Heath’s life, but she also played Lindsay’s idol. Them’s the breaks, kid.

Dina Lohan Takes No Blame For Lindsay’s Screwed-Up Life In Her Memoir

TMZ has apparently obtained a draft of the memoir that Dina Lohan is trying to shop around. Will she write about her career as a Radio City Rockette or her tumultuous marriage to Michael Lohan? Of course not! She’ll continue to exploit the well from which her only fame has come—that is, daughter Lindsay‘s fuck-ups.

TMZ posted two excerpts from the prologue — which Dina worked on with a ghostwriter — and both of them have Dina absolving herself of any guilt or fault over Lindsay’s drug- and jail-filled spiral.

I blamed her friends, her career and her handlers for an [sic] newfound lifestyle of partying excessively. Drinking, drugging and behaving irresponsibly became Lindsay’s way of daily living–and it tore me up inside.

How could I deny my daughter the chance of a lifetime? How could I hold Lindsay back from her dream of becoming an actress? So, I listened to others and sent my daughter to Hollywood with a few pieces of luggage and a chaperone.

She didn’t even go with Lindsay? We’re assuming that she’s referring to when LiLo got her big break in The Parent Trap, back in 1998. That she could send a twelve-year-old across the country shows how much she was playing manager instead of mother. Dina admits to this confusion in multiple situations, saying she felt “helpless” once Lindsay’s partying got out of control and she began racking up mugshots.

But that’s where she failed as a mother. Someone who cared more about her daughter’s well-being than her career would see potential in Lindsay for something other than being a movie star, but that’s all Lindsay’s been to her mother: A cash cow.

Scary-Skinny Ali Lohan’s First Cover Is Ironically For Fault Magazine

Newly-minted fashion model Aliana Lohan – with her newly-minted face — has already done two inappropriately sexual photo shoots. Her latest gig, which got her the cover, is closer to high-fashion than skeevy exploitation… but you have to giggle at the fact that it’s for a magazine called Fault.

What angers us most about this situation is that Ali’s startlingly skinny body and likely surgically-enhanced face are a cry for help, but are either ignored or encouraged by mother Dina. When you see the Lohans, they’re falling all over each other at parties. Older sister and supposed role model Lindsay – who we’re convinced is a meth addict — just got her probation revoked and might end up in jail.

Ali looks too old for 17 in this shoot, and even though she’s not doing anything inappropriate, we still worry about her. And really, you would’ve thought momager Dina could find a magazine with a less on-the-nose name.

This photo of what appears to be the perverse act of Lindsay Lohan making out with her own mother was taken at mom Dina Lohan‘s 49th birthday party. The rest of the Lohan clan was there, too — Michael Jr., Cody, and Aliana, who made her first public appearance since rumors of a potential modeling-related plastic surgery procedure and/or eating disorder began circulating. In photos taken that night, 17-year-old Ali looks frighteningly thin as she swims in her clothing against a backdrop of various celebrities.

I remember my mother’s own 49th birthday. It was a nice, fun evening: my dad cooked dinner and following that we all had cake. I made Mom a card and bought her what was probably a pair of earrings or a sweater — certainly not a Chanel gift bag, ostensibly gotten for free at a Fashion Week event, like Lindsay gifted Dina. There wasn’t a person in the room at my mother’s birthday dinner who could claim any amount of plastic surgery and no one felt guilty eating the cake. I would venture to say that a celebration like mine was a pretty typical way to ring in a family birthday. But add a paparazzi photographer to the mix and being a teenager at a family gathering takes on new gravity. Here’s a comment Lindsay posted to Twitter about the attention Ali has been getting:

“I love how haters pick on my sister yet every runway model is just as thin! My sister is gorgeous and I’m so proud of her and her career!!!!”

The notion of whether or not Ali “gorgeous” isn’t the focus of the controversy surrounding her. Nor is society necessarily questioning the beauty of too-thin runway models — being beautiful and being unhealthy are not mutually exclusive. People are alarmed because they’re looking at a girl who appears drastically different from the way she looked just months ago, and that’s anything but typical, even for a teenager hitting a growth spurt. Seeing something so disturbing shifts focus to the family — and when this teen’s mother is out getting shitfaced and falling all over her other daughter (her recovering addict daughter), it becomes even more difficult to accept that Ali’s situation is a healthy one.

Why are people looking at photos like the one above and reacting so strongly? Well, for one, because we’re bored at our desks and we love gawking at celebrities. But I’d like to believe there’s also an element of genuine concern at play here — for Ali and for a society that encourages a teenage girl to follow in the self-destructive footsteps of her older sister.

Well, here’s some new nightmare fuel for you: in this photograph, Lindsay Lohan appears to be French kissing her own mother, Dina Lohan. That can’t actually be what’s going on here, right? This is just a weird angle? And Dina’s totally just whispering some motherly advice (“save yourself for marriage”) in Lindsay’s ear? Right?

The alternative is too unsettling to even consider. Another issue at hand here, however, is all the partying Dina and Lindsay do together. I’m no Dr. Drew, but I can’t imagine a crowded club is the ideal place for mother/daughter bonding if you’re a recovering addict who has relapsed in the past. Just last week, Dina and Lindsay hosted a fashion week party together — and later that night, Lindsay was seen hurling glasses across the room in a fit of rage.

Whatever Lindsay and Dina are doing here, it looks like they’re up to no good.

When I posted this gallery of Ali Lohan modeling in a manner I felt was inappropriate for a teenage girl, several commenters told me, essentially, to lighten up. One compared Ali’s photos to the Toddlers and Tiaras toddler-prostitute scandal of the same week — in her opinion a much greater crime. I definitely agree that there are degrees of offense when it comes to the exploitation of young girls. However these skimpy-clothes and lingerie photos, taken from Ali’s Next Model Management profile, seem indisputably inappropriate fare from a high schooler.

Whether or not you believe a 17-year-old has the wherewithal to make decisions about her own body, the reality of the situation is that she’s a minor under the guardianship of her mother. And when her mother is Dina Lohan, a woman whose judgment has time and time again been clouded by a yearning for fame, it’s hard to see these photos as more than an attempt to stir up headlines (looks like we’re feeding right into that) and garner more fame for the family.

In terms of degrees of female exploitation, are these photos the worst I’ve seen? No; they’re hardly the worst I’ve seen this week. All I know is that I’m 26, and if someone had taken sexualized photos of me at 17, I’d most definitely regret it by now.

Next Model Management Denies That Ali Lohan Has Gotten Plastic Surgery

In light of the controversy that exploded yesterday over what is ostensibly celeb little sister Ali Lohan‘s totally new face, the modeling agency that signed her has come out in denial against the rumors that Ali has undergone what appears to be a massive amount of plastic surgery (cheek implants, lip injections, and some nose and chin stuff). In a statement, a spokeswoman for Next Model Management explained:

“As a young girl who is growing up, it’s natural for her facial features to change slightly, and we see this with many of the younger models we represent. Aliana is a beautiful 17-year-old girl who is growing into her face and body, as is the norm for someone of her age. We take pastoral care of our models very seriously and encourage the models to maintain a healthy lifestyle and body shape

While we’re extremely skeptical of the validity of this statement, the only conceivable explanation for Ali undergoing such a drastic change in appearance over such a short period of time is that she lost an amount of weight so unhealthy that it radically transformed her features. Women with eating disorders often do become unrecognizable as their disease progresses to the point where they’re little more than pure bone. How much weight, exactly, would Ali needed to have lost to alter her face in such a dramatic way? Here’s a photo of the teen from 2009 where she’s already looking pretty twig-like:

So the answer is: an incredibly unhealthy amount of weight, it seems. So, if weight loss is the case, what we’re dealing with here is a teenage girl who’s being asked to adhere to unreasonable standards of beauty in what is merely a different terrible way. Plastic surgery or eating disorder: pick your poison. (Literal poison, please!)
