El Guincho (on the right)

I finally had the privilege of seeing El Guincho live on Tuesday night and it was well worth the wait.

Lemonade

Opener was Lemonade who were pretty good although several times the lead singer’s voice seemed off key…they are playing again tonight at Zebulon and on December 9 at the Annex with Friendly Fires.

El Guincho went on late but as soon as his salsa infused electro beats came on and I heard his sweet voice I was happy…. More »

El Guincho Cancels US and Other Dates

El Guincho Cancels US and Other Dates

So…I am pissed. One of the people I was looking forward to seeing twice this summer has canceled most of his upcoming tour dates. Argentinian El Guincho will no longer be at the Pitchfork Festival in Chicago, or opening for Atlas Sound at a string of dates, including a free show at South Street Seaport on July 25. Pitchfork reports:
A post to the Discoteca Océano blog filed on his behalf notes that El Guincho is exhausted from the whirlwind 2008… More »

So many venues host (mostly) free shows in the summertime, it’s hard to keep up. There’s McCarren Pool, Central Park, and Prospect Park. Here’s an update to what I’ve already posted (McCarren so far, Prospect Park so far, Central Park so far):

Winter Garden:

El Guincho Playing Free Show Tonight, I'm From Barcelona Coming Soon

Recently named Best New Music by Pitchfork, El Guincho is in town from Barcelona and is playing a free show for Other Music at Union Pool in Brooklyn tonight. Apparently he rocked it at SXSW and at Mercury Lounge last night, so this seems like a good show to check out.

Incidentally, the very large band I’m From Barcelona, who are actually from Sweden, will be at Maxwell’s on April 25 and at a boomBOOM presents show at Brooklyn Masonic Temple… More »
