Are you thirsty for some refreshing music? Then you must check out Lemonade, an awesome dance/techno/uncategorizable band originally from San Francisco and recently transplanted to Brooklyn. Welcome! After a stint opening for El Guincho on his North American tour, they have since been playing various NYC-area shows. They have a few coming up (Friday night at The Shank with Tanlines, Sunday night at Santos’ party House with DJ Holy Ghost, and February 25 with… More »
El Guincho (on the right)
I finally had the privilege of seeing El Guincho live on Tuesday night and it was well worth the wait.
Lemonade
Opener was Lemonade who were pretty good although several times the lead singer’s voice seemed off key…they are playing again tonight at Zebulon and on December 9 at the Annex with Friendly Fires.
El Guincho went on late but as soon as his salsa infused electro beats came on and I heard his sweet voice I was happy…. More »
Spanish mastermind El Guincho, who canceled multiple tour dates in the U.S. this summer, is finally making it back and is playing two shows in NYC at (le) Poisson Rouge. The first was a DJ set with Prefuse 73 on Saturday night. Was anyone there? How was it?

So…I am pissed. One of the people I was looking forward to seeing twice this summer has canceled most of his upcoming tour dates. Argentinian El Guincho will no longer be at the Pitchfork Festival in Chicago, or opening for Atlas Sound at a string of dates, including a free show at South Street Seaport on July 25. Pitchfork reports:
A post to the Discoteca Océano blog filed on his behalf notes that El Guincho is exhausted from the whirlwind 2008… More »

So many venues host (mostly) free shows in the summertime, it’s hard to keep up. There’s McCarren Pool, Central Park, and Prospect Park. But then there’s also Castle Clinton in Battery Park, the Winter Garden at the World Financial Center, and the South Street Seaport. Here’s an update to what I’ve already posted (McCarren so far, Prospect Park so far, Central Park so far):
Winter Garden:
Saturday, May 31, 6:00pm – Sunday, June 1, 6:00am (12-hour… More »
