After almost two weeks of secret talks, Lionsgate has announced that Woody Harrelson will play Haymitch, the only living District 12 victor and Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta’s (Josh Hutcherson) mentor during their run in the 74th Hunger Games. Harrelson is a great fit for the role: He’s known for playing wise-cracking, rough-edged mentors — his role as Tallahassee in 2009′s Zombieland quickly comes to mind. More »
Hold on to your hot pink wigs! Elizabeth Banks just confirmed on her Twitter that she’s joining the Hunger Games cast as Effie Trinket, the bubbly, manners-minded Capitol representative who makes sure that Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) look and act presentable for their participation in the Hunger Games. The hugely anticipated Hunger Games adaptation has begun to fill out its cast: Elizabeth Banks has been added to a crew including Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, and Liam Hemsworth. Each casting decision comes with a round of outcry from devoted fans of the books, many of whom lament the lack of physical resemblance between the actors and their fictional characters. So what do devoted fans of the series think Katniss, Peeta and Gale look like? We went over to DeviantArt to find out. More »
District 1 has its tributes: Jack Quaid (son of Dennis Quaid and Meg Ryan) and Leven Rambin (Sloan’s daughter Sloan on Grey’s Anatomy) will play Marvel and Glimmer in The Hunger Games. In the series, District 1 is one of the richer districts because it manufactures luxury goods for the Capitol. In keeping with the lush lifestyle, the children receive strange names. But don’t think they’re softies: Katniss nicknames the District 1 tributes “Careers” because of how they band together during training. Of course, there can be only one champion. More »
Paul Giamatti‘s newest movie opens up today. It’s called Win Win.
I saw it at Sundance this year and enjoyed it. Alex Shaffer, Giamatti’s young costar (pictured), is particularly fun to watch. But after the film ended came the Q&A, where director Thomas McCarthy explained his casting of Paul as the lead. Lucky for him, the two were already friends. But the actor was hesitant to take on the role of Mike Flaherty, because he wasn’t sure he could handle it. He said something to the effect of “Mike is happy. I can’t do happy.” More »
James Franco kept the mood somber at Chelsea Cinema last night for the premiere of Danny Boyle‘s latest flick, 127 Hours. Maybe it was due to the film’s content, about the climber Aron Ralston who has to do a terrible thing in order to escape the boulders he finds himself trapped between. Or maybe it’s because James Franco is a jerk who likes to hit phones out of girl’s hands? Either way, James proceeded over the ceremonies by making sure the random cast of celebs that attended would be shown looking as miserable as he was. Fun! More »
Full disclosure: I do not look like someone who buys a lot of Ann Taylor. In fact, walking around the rooftop of the Gramercy Hotel last night, where the 2011 Spring Collection for the women’s fashion line was being showcased, I couldn’t help feeling a little out of place among the sophisticated neutral jackets, understated black dresses, and gorgeous heels. It’s true: despite my purple sneakers and red Michael Jackson Thriller jacket, I secretly covet the seemingly effortless business casual day-to-night look that is the trademark of Ann Taylor’s clothing line and their gorgeous accessories by Isa Tapia. You remember 8th grade right? When DIY fashion hadn’t quite turned out the way you wanted it to? We’re having trouble with the concept of these mullet pants, not the least because they are the opposite of mullet: They’re long in the front, short in the back. Unless of course, you’re going off the mullet credo: “Business in the front, party in the back.” Anyway, here’s 5 examples of real mullet-inspired clothing: More »
It’s confirmed: 30 Rock actress Elizabeth Banks will be starring in Tink, the first live-action film that centers solely on Peter Pan’s pixie sidekick. We couldn’t think of anyone better to play the role (sorry Julia Roberts!), since the Judd Apatow comedienne has that perfect blend of gamine charm and “That bitch Wendy better not get in my way” attitude. Too bad Alec Baldwin is too old to play Peter Pan (though we could totally see him as Captain Hook).

Elizabeth Banks, who was totally snubbed for an Emmy nod for her performance on 30 Rock btw – reluctantly talks to Brett Gelman in this new Funny or Die original. For New York residents, Brett is probably most recognizable as the “Little Bit Of Luck” guy for the state lotto commercials. The whole video has that Between Two Ferns-feel, because the new funniest thing to watch is actors pretending to be uncomfortable. Oh well, better than the classic celebrity interview,… More »
Elizabeth Banks is responding to rumors that she might be dating Chris Pine. The actress says there’s no truth to reports she’s hookup with the Star Trek star behind her husband’s back.

Elizabeth Banks and Chris Pine were spotted together last night after the Met Gala, reports Just Jared. But are they dating?
That’s news to us, since Elizabeth has been married to her college sweetheart Max Handelman since 2003. Jared says the couple haven’t been spotted on the red carpet since September, which could point to a possible, secret separation. But we found this picture of Elizabeth and Max from the Academy Awards — in March.

Somewhere, Rahm Emanuel is cackling…. More »
