Video: Ellen Turns Her JCPenney Haters Into Motivators

As if Ellen needed to give me one more reason to love her, she’s addressing the One Million Moms boycott against her being the JCPenney spokesperson head on during today’s show. In light of Prop 8 being ruled unconstitutional yesterday (yays all around!) and the fact that the One Million Moms group is still trying to ruin her partnership with JCPenney, Ellen thought it was time to speak out.

And she did it in her typical Ellen fashion; with humor, logic and a reference to the Pillsbury Doughboy. But just because it was funny doesn’t mean that she left out the big facts, including the fact that the One Million Moms group only has 40,000 members on Facebook and that JCPenney’s getting lots of positive Pro-Ellen support for not backing down.

Feel inspired to support Ellen? Go write a positive message on JCPenney’s Facebook wall. I promise you that the pro-Ellen support messages that are already there will make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

Between this outpouring of support for Ellen and the outpouring of support for Planned Parenthood last week, I feel like the Internet has renewed my faith in humanity. If enough of us show our support on social media, we actually can make a difference. Nice thought to kick off hump day, right?

Ellen DeGeneres And Portia De Rossi Are Finally Working Together On TV

Once Heidi Klum and Seal ruined all my hopes and dreams by separating, Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi moved into my heart as my favorite reliable Hollywood couple. Ever since they’ve been together I’ve been waiting for the big baby announcement splashed on the cover of People. But since Ellen has stated repeatedly that they will never be parents, the news that broke over the weekend about them working on a show together is almost as exciting.

And no, before you get the wrong idea, it’s not a live-action sloth d ocudrama or a weekly clip show of Ellen dancing. It’s an actual scripted TV show called “The Smart One” that stars Portia De Rossi as a successful business woman who goes to work for the popular and not-so-smart mayor. In true TV fashion, the mayor happens to be her very own sister; let the sibling rivalry and family therapy hijinks ensue! Ellen will be working behind the scenes as the executive producer alongside executive producer/writer Daniel Todd. ABC picked up the pilot for the 30 minute multi-cam show.

After knowing that Ellen dealt with JC Penney’s homophobic fan club last week, it’s great to hear that she and Portia were able to celebrate something positive this weekend. I’m hoping her star power will be strong enough to get the show through the pilot stage and into the regular season. Portia hasn’t had much luck in the past and I’d love to see her pull another Lindsay Bluth Fünke and find a role that truly works.

‘Family Values’ Group Picked The Wrong Target In Ellen Degeneres

Yesterday, news came out that “family values” (i.e. anti-gay bigotry) group OneMillionMoms.com has started a petition against clothing retailer JC Penney for hiring Ellen Degeneres as a spokesperson. Do they really think this is a fight they can win?

“Funny that JC Penney thinks hiring an open homosexual spokesperson will help their business when most of their customers are traditional families,” writes OMM in a statement. “More sales will be lost than gained unless they replace their spokesperson quickly. Unless JC Penney decides to be neutral in the culture war then their brand transformation will be unsuccessful.”

First, would it kill them to hire a copywriter? Someone who understands adverbs? That paragraph is hurting my eyes. Second, it would hardly make them “neutral” in the culture war to fire Ellen Degeneres for being gay. That would be taking quite the position, no? The position that lesbians are gross, depraved, and totally unfit to promote boxy casualwear, when everyone knows they look great in it. It’s also ridiculous to think straight people won’t buy JC Penney’s clothing unless their spokesperson is straight, too. Ellen’s marriage only erodes “family values” if you think that for every gay marriage that occurs, a straight marriage immediately crumbles.

But the biggest reason this campaign is stupid (on a practical level at least), is that it is Ellen. People love Ellen. I mean, look at her. She’s fucking adorable! Ellen and Portia de Rossi are probably the most famous lesbian couple in America, and also the most accepted by the mainstream. They are the nice, normal, white, cisgender, cuddly same-sex couple that dimwits can look at and begin to realize that gay people are people, too, just like them. Ellen gives college scholarships to homeless girls, helps cute animals find homes, and even dances with the president (although OMM probably doesn’t like him, either). She has the most general of general interest shows on TV. She is basically the white lesbian version of Oprah, in that even my racist old family members love Oprah. Everyone but the most horrid of anti-gay bigots smiles when they see Ellen’s shining face on television, and that’s why OneMillionMoms.com picked a strategically disadvantageous target for their hatred. Not that there’s ever a “good” target for shit like this.

Then again, I don’t think anyone at OMM thinks they’re going to win this fight. They’re just using this as an excuse to spew yet more gross rhetoric about people who are different from them. I doubt Ellen is letting it get to her; I’m more worried about any gay kids the people at OMM might have.

Video: Watch Kristen Bell Have A Total Meltdown Over Sloths

Kristen Bell stopped by The Ellen Degeneres Show for a chat this morning, and told her a story about her favorite animal that has to be seen to be believed. Luckily, she brought video footage with her.

The story goes like this. Kristen’s boyfriend Dax Shepard said he had a birthday surprise for her, and told her to get the dogs and go in the other room. Kristen somehow knew immediately that there was a sloth nearby, and began sobbing with joy. Dax had the video camera all ready to capture her look of happy surprise, but when he found her, she was a hysterical mess. The sloth sure was cute, though. (Don’t worry, he didn’t buy the sloth…he only rented it to hang out at her birthday party.)

I love how humorous and self-deprecating Kristen Bell is about the whole thing, and I also love how Ellen fakes her out at the end. Also, now I’m wondering why my boyfriend hasn’t rented me a sloth yet, because sloths are pretty much the best.

Seal Is Keeping His Wedding Ring On

What caused Heidi Klum and Seal to split after seven years of marriage is still up for speculation, but who wants the split is becoming more and more obvious. Heidi is the one filing divorce papers, and Seal seems to be the one who’s not quite ready to move on.

Today on The Ellen DeGeneres Show Seal told Ellen he was keeping his wedding ring on because of the connection he still has with Heidi , going on to gush about the eight wonderful years they had together and the respect they have for each other. Overall he just didn’t sound like a guy being polite in the public eye for the sake of his children, he sounded like a guy who isn’t over his ex, and maybe isn’t even willing to start to get over her.

It’s also worth noting he said later in the interview “will we wear the rings forever, who knows,” implying he assumes Heidi is continuing to wear her ring as well. If that’s true it might be a gesture of goodwill, honoring their past and acknowledging they’ll have to continue to work together to raise the children. If she’s not wearing it, Seal hanging on just seems sad.

Ellen Awards College Scholarship To Deserving Homeless Girl

Ellen Degeneres fulfilled the “inspiring personal story” caveat of daytime television today by bringing on a girl named Samantha Garvey. Garvey is an accomplished student of science and a finalist in the Intel Science Talent Search. This would be impressive for anyone, but Garvey has the added obstacle that she and her family are homeless. She has to do her schoolwork while undergoing the stress of living in a shelter.

Because Ellen is in the business of helping dreams come true, she obtained Samantha a $50,000 college scholarship from AT&T. She also got her family a $1,000 gift card to Whole Foods (which should buy approximately a month’s worth groceries there, but they’ll be good groceries) and a $5,000 gift card to J.C. Penney. $50,000 isn’t going to pay for much more than one year of school at one of Garvey’s top choices (Yale or Brown), but something tells me she’s going to be just fine, as she’s pretty much exactly the kind of student financial aid offices like to award full scholarships to.

Lindsay Lohan Fails At Life, Missed Her Flight For Her Ellen Taping

Here’s Lindsay Lohan frolicking on the beach in Hawaii a few days ago. Whether or not this were a planned paparazzi shot, fans and press alike have commented that she looks happier and healthier than before. Things could maybe be turning around for the troubled starlet, right?

Wrong. Gossip Cop reports that Lindsay flaked and missed her Ellen taping. You might remember that she was expected to debut her Playboy cover on Thursday’s episode, even after the cover and the nude photo shoot got leaked early.

According to LiLo’s spokesperson, she missed her flight out of Hawaii, where she was vacationing with mom Dina and little sister Aliana. Seriously?

Lindsay was delayed in Hawaii due to a travel-related issue. She will be heading back this evening in time to appear in court tomorrow. Lindsay offered to tape Ellen tomorrow, but the show was unable to shift things around, and tomorrow is their last day of taping for the season.

Furthermore, an Ellen show inside says that Lindsay didn’t call to apologize. Paris Jackson filled in as that episode’s guest.

This is the kind of ridiculous, self-destructive behavior that makes you want to slap Lindsay upside the head if she were your daughter/sister/friend. Appearing on Ellen was one step toward a more positive and relatable image, and she couldn’t even manage the simple act of getting on a plane to Los Angeles.

The moment you’ve been eagerly waiting for: Lindsay Lohan‘s Playboy spread has leaked online, a week before she was set to reveal it on Ellen. Not surprisingly, the magazine’s execs are “freaking out” since they paid her $1 million and printed several thousand extra copies expecting everyone would run to the newsstands next week. But why do that when you can look at them on your computer? (Until someone tells us to take them down, of course.)

They’re definitely NSFW ’cause of her strangely tiny nipples, but they’re also… tamer than we expected. LiLo definitely channels Marilyn Monroe, but we might’ve wanted more glitz. And we do miss her natural red hair. But! Judge for yourself if the shoot were worth a million dollars.

UPDATE: Playboy’s lawyer requested the images from Lindsay’s spread be removed, so you’ll have to go back to Google to find them now.

I actually know very little about Adam Scott beyond him playing that douchebag on HBO’s real-sex show Tell Me You Love Me a few years ago. But everyone loves him for Party Down and other actual comedies, and now I can see why.

Backstage at Ellen, he’s the subject of an odd interview: One of the writers filling in for someone, and the only questions she has are the ones they wrote down for Hilary Duff. Adam gamely slings answers back pretending to be the pregnant pop star—and he gets really excited when talking about his album that’ll be dropping soon.

Obviously it’s a bit, but it’s still pretty cute.

Over the years, we’ve watched Logan Lerman grow up in Hollywood—literally. He’s played the younger versions of Ashton Kutcher and Mel Gibson in film, and he was the future President in the WB series Jack & Bobby. Now, he plays the young upstart D’Artagnan in the steampunk action movie The Three Musketeers (also starring Orlando Bloom).

Despite his many years in the biz, Logan is adorably humble; a recent tweet reads, Just spoke to an audience in Korea. I’m going to have a heart attack now. We already called it in 2010 when we put him on our Crushable 25 list, but now we’ve learned even more about this star.

1. That’s not his hair in The Three Musketeers (thank God!)—it took twelve hours to put in the hair extensions that gave Logan Fabio-like locks to match the movie’s time period. He says they were itchy and uncomfortable and would fall out in awkward places.

2. Logan lives at home, which is unusual for a 19-year-old Hollywood star, but there you go. On yesterday’s interview with Ellen DeGeneres, he admitted that it’s weird to be living in his old room again, but not awful. And yes, he does have chores—he takes out his trash.

3. Like many young Hollywood stars, he used to make silly YouTube videos with his pal (and fellow actor) Dean Collins under the username monkeynuts1069. However, most of the videos are from four years ago; it’s obvious that Logan isn’t involved in the channel anymore, but Dean still had to include a note under “interests”: LOGAN DOES NOT CHECK THIS CHANNEL.

4. Dean and Logan also formed a band called Indigo; Logan plays keyboard and guitar, Dean sings, and third member Daniel Pashman is on drums.

5. According to IMDb, he’s achieved a very rare honor: He’s one of only three actors who has played the son of another actor, then gone on to play a younger version of that same actor’s character.
