Dear The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences,

I, Michael Pitt, will be attending the 63rd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards with my date, birdlike model Jamie Bouchert. I understand your black tie dress code and I’m willing to wear a jacket, shirt and pants, but it’s simply ridiculous that you’d ask me to force myself into a pair of dress shoes.

You see, I’m trying very hard to cultivate the impression that I don’t give a fuck, and that’s hard enough to do when I have to sit in the same room as those cheery virginal twerps from Glee. How am I supposed to convey to people that I have a Bauhaus song stuck in my head when onstage in front of me is that manufactured cheeseball, Johnny Drama ? I mean, I don’t even know who Johnny Drama is. So understand that I’m really in between a rock and a hard place here, okay? I want to attend your event, but I also need for people to understand that I am above your event — so I insist on wearing the scuffed footwear of my choosing.

P.S. If the plumbing breaks, please don’t ask me to fix it. I’ve run into that problem in the past, and just because I’m wearing work boots, that doesn’t mean I’m actually a fucking handyman.

3 Ways Kate Winslet Can Win That Tony to Get Her EGOT

Props to Ology for realizing that with last night’s Emmy win for Mildred Pierce, Kate Winslet is now only one step away from ~~world domination~~ an EGOT. It’s the Grand Slam of the arts world, where artists get at least one each of the four big awards: Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony.

Past EGOT winners include Audrey Hepburn, Mel Brooks, and Whoopi Goldberg. Here are Kate’s stats:

After six Academy Award nominations, Kate finally took home the Oscar for The Reader in 2009.
Amazingly, she’s already nabbed the Grammy, which usually proves to be the most difficult for actors looking to cross over. It sort of happened through a loophole: In 2000, she won for Best Spoken Word Album for Children, for her collaboration on Listen to the Storyteller.
And of course, last night’s Emmy for Mildred Pierce.

So now Kate just needs to star in a Broadway play or musical. This shouldn’t be so difficult, since she was born into a family of thespians and got her start on the stage. Interestingly, however, the majority of her career as an adult has been in film. But we’ve come up with three completely doable projects that could get Kate her final award — or at least be a step in the right direction.

Note: Commenter Stephanie pointed out that Kate has to either originate a role or star in a revival to be eligible for a Tony. Our bad! Find our new ideas on the next page.

Oh, Josh Charles, look at you go with your wacky Emmys red carpet antics. The Good Wife star got all grabby on his girlfriend, ballet dancer-turned-Young Adult novelist Sophie Flack. But she didn’t seem to mind. In fact, she looks rather delighted — what a good sport.

The weirdest part about this gesture is that Josh doesn’t seem to be engaging in some sort of sensual act as much as he appears the be checking to make sure Sophie’s breast is still there. Totally intact, Josh! Phew.

Charlie Sheen And Ashton Kutcher Are Best Buddies

It’s the heartwarming tale of the century: Charlie Sheen and Ashton Kutcher hung out backstage at The Emmys and totally didn’t come to blows. Charlie, who took the stage during the awards show to wish his former cast and crew luck, tweeted the above photo of himself with a bearded Ashton (hitting that depressed millionaire thing a little hard, huh, AK?) Charlie wrote: “Giving the new kid a little advice..! With @aplusk backstage at the Emmy’s…”

He followed the first tweet up with another photo and the message “Seriously… @aplusk great talking to you! We’ll all be watching! Make us proud!!”

Aw. Best buddies for life. The all-new Two and a Half Men premieres this week — we’ll soon see how Ashton and his beard have stepped into the role..

SNL funnyguy dreamboats The Lonely Island took the stage at last night’s Emmy Awards to perform a medley of their hits, including “I Just Had Sex,” “3-Way (The Golden Rule),” and “Jack Sparrow.”

Speaking of Jack Sparrow, Michael Bolton joined the trio to reprise his role as the dreadlocked song-and-dance captain. Maya Rudolph and Akon hopped on board as well to deliver one of the highlights of the lackluster awards ceremony.

The Best Comedic Actress Emmy Was The Highlight Of The Show

Tonight’s Emmy Awards, hosted by the normally terrific Jane Lynch, was a little on the boring side this year. But there was one genuinely amazing moment, and it came during the presentation for Best Actress in a Comedy.

When nominee Amy Poehler’s named was called as one of the six contenders, she walked onto the stage in a hilarious gesture. She was joined by her fellow nominees: Edie Falco, Martha Plimpton, Tina Fey, Melissa McCarthy and Laura Linney. The women held hands and all appeared genuinely excited when Melissa won the award, for her work on Mike & Molly. Seeing these women act so supportive of one another (Amy Poehler in particular has a history of cheering on her fellow female comedy-makers) was refreshing and pretty inspiring.

The one buzzkill? Presenter Rob Lowe called the actresses “Girls,” and told them “there are no losers here.” It was pretty condescending and something that the ladyheroes on stage probably already knew.

Oh man, tonight’s Emmy Awards is like Christmas for Crushable. Our two very favorite ridiculous women, Gwyneth Paltrow and Paz de la Huerta, are both dressed in utterly silly outfits. But whose look takes the insanity cake?

On one side, we’ve got Gwyneth wearing a belly-baring, see-through all over, slinky black dress. And on the other, we have Paz, wearing a pink gown sliced at the knee, coupled with… is that silver lipstick? My goodness.

This year at the Emmy Awards, it looks like the red carpet is matching the drapes! Oh my god, I am so sorry about that. What I’m trying to say is: a lot of stars wore bright red to the ceremony this year. Whose gown do you like best? I’m throwing my support behind Vampire Diaries star Nina Dobrev‘s strapless ensemble.

Update: Sofia Vergara and Kerry Washington are killing it as well.
