Crushable Quotable: Jason Mraz Breaks Up with Fiance, Says Weird Stuff

Singer/songwriter/bare feet enthusiast Jason Mraz has ended his engagement to fellow singer/songwriter/shoe hater Tristan Prettyman. In an interview, he explains the reasons for the break up and says some pretty darn weird stuff:

“My greatest mistake right now is, I’ve been clinging to my art. In that, I have victory for my art and a great loss for my heart. At the moment, my beautiful fiance is no longer my beautiful fiance… Two halves don’t make a whole. Two wholes make a whole. In my relationship, I was giving myself away to make the relationship better, but in actuality, wasn’t doing better by doing that. I became less of a man .”

Well, at least his art is victorious, here. And apparently Jason and Tristan still surf and do yoga together, so there’s that.

Although original Teen Mom cast member Maci Bookout has said that she would like to get married and have more kids down the road, she’s denying rumors that she’s engaged to boyfriend Kyle King. Although OK! magazine quoted friends of Maci’s saying that the couple was engaged, Maci took to her Twitter to deny the rumor. As for that ring she’s supposedly been wearing? It’s a promise ring, but nothing else. While the couple may not be settling down just yet, they seem to have no problem posing for cutesy photos in Us Weekly.

But if you’re expecting this story to go the direction of cupids and string quartets (you’re not, you read the headline), then you have another thing coming. Jay explained his thought process during his proposal to Alison:

“I was going to give her a ring, and I wasn’t sure. I wasn’t ready in my heart to say what it was. When I gave it to her, I just said, basically, ‘Shit or get off the pot.’ I said, ‘Fuck it, will you marry me?’”

Aww? The two plan to marry next September; hopefully Jay will have come to his senses and embrace romance by then.

Jersey Shore’s Angelina Feeds Her Fame Addiction, Gets Engaged On The Red Carpet

Just when we started to feel bad for Angelina Pivarnick, she finds a new way to keep her name in the headlines. Just yesterday, we reported that the former Jersey Shore star was causing a ruckus with the producers of Celebrity Rehab, by demanding more money and refusing to quit drinking.

But if Angelina is an addict, it’s more like that she’s addicted to cameras than alcohol. Because yesterday she got “engaged.” On the red carpet.

Her boyfriend, Dave Kovacs, proposed to her yesterday in front of photographers and journalists at Fashion Week. Look at that picture. Angelina couldn’t be more delighted. Dave certainly knows her well, because he proposed in her favorite place.

Oh No They Didn’t! reports that Angelina immediately said yes. A witness told People:

“She was completely surprised and said, ‘Are you serious?’ She looked really happy and shocked…She covered her face with her hand and dropped the ring on carpet because she was so nervous. He then picked her up and they hugged and kissed.’”

I think her boyfriend clearly must hail from a town without a cable or Internet connection, because he would have to be insane to propose after witnessing her antics on Jersey Shore. Then again, she’s probably a pretty entertaining person to be around. And maybe he’s hoping for an Angelina: Getting Married? spin-off. Good luck with that, you two!

Jodi Sweetin, the former child star and meth head, has gotten engaged. But despite her boyfriend springing for a ring, the couple does not actually plan to get married. Instead, their pulling a Brad and Angelina and claim they’ll wait until gays have the right to marry as well. Really? Are we sure someone in this couple just doesn’t want to get married?

For her 29th birthday, the former Full House star’s boyfriend Morty Coyle, who is also the father of her five-month-old daughter, bought her a sapphire ring and apparently proposed at a party in front of their friends and family.

But there are no plans for a wedding. According to Coyle:

“We want to wait until there’s equality for everybody to get married.”

Hmn… Is this a political statement? Or just a delaying tactic to get out of marriage?

In a situation like this, it’s hard to tell.

It’s one thing when a couple like Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt make a statement like that. And then proceed to make a family together. Who knows if they’ll stay together for the long haul. But their opinions on gay marriage appear to be heartfelt. It’s a whole other story when someone like Girls Gone Wild founder Joe Francis makes a gay equality claim. Especially because he ignored his own sentiments and proceeded to get married this fall.

That relationship did not last all of two months, showing that Joe’s statement might have been more of an elaborate equivocation than anything seriously considered.

Here, Coyle puts it like this:

“Just because we weren’t married doesn’t mean she doesn’t deserve a ring.”

Fair enough. But purchasing a nice ring for your girlfriend is different than agreeing to spend your life with her. And pretending like you’re putting off a decision like that for the good of a minority group sounds like a pretty lame attempt to make yourself look good.
