Daisy Lowe Dances For 'Esquire'

The Daily News quotes David as griping, “Scarlett completely screwed us.” He reportedly made that remark at a magazine conference in Toronto; a source tells the newspaper that Esquire had first courted ScarJo for the cover, and that she was “committed” to the shoot. That fell through, and curvaceous Christina got the gig.

Scarlett’s various commitments — Iron Man 2, her work on Broadway — might have have something to do with her apparent change of heart. Representatives for the actress and Esquire did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

UPDATE: A spokesman for Esquire declined comment Friday afternoon. No word from ScarJo’s camp.

James Franco will be playing famed beat poet Allen Ginsberg in the upcoming film Howl, but if his recent fiction published in Esquire is any indication, the actor still has a lot of research to do before he ascends to Kerouac-levels of greatness. See, we love James Franco: He seems to have a good sense of humor about himself and his celebrity status, takes on new and interesting projects – including currently getting degrees at both Tisch and Columbia, and (lets face it) is really, really, ridiculously good-looking. But we can’t all be great at everything, and we think we found James’ weakness in his terrible, hackneyed prose and ridiculous dialogue. Some of our favorite examples from his story, “Just Before The Black,” below, and our notes constructive criticism bolded below.

And I think about that missing tooth, and that gap, and how there was never a gap in that place before, and about three dimensions, and how the gap was on the inside of his mouth unless he opened his mouth and how things, shapes, folded in on themselves, and four dimensions, and if time is variable, then how do I vary it, and why do I want to? Because everything just focuses in on me and I hate it.

I wish I was Mexican, or Hebrew, I mean Jewish, I mean Israeli, or Mexican Jewish, or Mexican Jewish gay, because it can be so boring being you sometimes, and if you were the most special thing like that, it could be really great, but maybe some people say the same thing about you, and you want to tell those people: “No, you’re stupid, it’s no fun being me.”

This is a good start to your 101 Creative Writing course, but we’re not quite sure it’d Esquire material if you hadn’t starred in Freaks and Geeks.

James Franco's 'Esquire' Fiction: Dissecting Beauty

The fact that a 24-year-old woman is taking birth control as preventative measure to avoid having a kid she’s not prepared for (among the myriad of other reasons birth control can be prescribed for) should not be scandalous in any way. Plus, you’ve gotta take those suckers at the same time every day, regardless of if that time occurs during an interview with a national magazine.

Or are people reacting to the fact that Amanda took an antidepressant? I do realize not everyone is as open as my family about mental illness and the corresponding drugs they’re treated with, but I would think that by 2010, people would at least have come to terms with the fact that depression and anxiety are true, clinical problems that occasionally need to be treated with drugs.

(I don’t even want to get into the whole over-prescription/misdiagnosis problem in America — which I believe does exist, see Corey Haim or Brittany Murphy for sad, recent examples — I am only referring to the responsible, legitimate usage of prescription drugs to treat real problems.)

When I read Amanda’s interview, the part where she took her pills didn’t even register as weird to me. It seemed so completely normal that I was taken by surprise when I read the Jezebel post. I have no problem with taking prescription drugs in public — I was recently stricken with a persistent case of strep throat, and had to take antibiotics with my meals three times a day for over a month. What was I going to do, head to the bathroom and swallow my pill? That would’ve made it seem so illicit.

Were you shocked that Amanda was so open about taking her prescription drugs in public? Is that something you would’ve done?

Going to brush your teeth at night and finding out that you’ve had broccoli stuck in there since lunch is one of the most infuriating things ever. Why didn’t anyone say anything? You know every single person you talked to that day was just staring at that green blob and not saying anything about it. (Related: every single person who did not tell you about the broccoli is a jerk.) It’s not like you’d get insanely embarrassed about something that happens to everyone at one point or another. You just say “Oh, thank you,” and pick that sucker out (or, you know, something classier).

So, following the golden rule, do you tell other people when they have food stuck in their teeth? If there’s a girl on the subway whose tag is sticking out of her shirt, do you tell her? If the person walking up the steps in front of you is wearing a backpack and one of the pockets is open, do you tap him on the shoulder? Or is it awkward to say that to a total stranger?

Would You Tell Amanda Seyfried If She Had Food Stuck In Her Teeth?

Baer’s clients includes celebs like Eliza Dushku, Sarah Michelle-Gellar and Eva Longoria. His beautiful portraits have appeared in major magazines, including Cosmopolitan, People, Esquire and Time. Paris is a big fan of his work and I’m sure he’ll make her look hot.

Paris had this to say on Twitter earlier:

“Finally finished my photo shoot. It was a long day but worth it, cause the pictures turned out fabulous! I am so exhausted!”

Oh the life of a celebrity! Better to be exhausted by photo shoots with famous photographers than anything else.
