Here’s the latest rundown on the Mad Men affair: To save money, AMC has demanded that show creator Matt Weiner cut two minutes from each new episode and axe six characters at the rate of two per year. Matt is wavering on signing the deal, so AMC may be forced to push forward without him. Either way, we won’t be getting any new episodes until 2012 — a fact that we find personally devastating. British author and musician John Wesley Harding (Wesley Stace is his real name) has put together a sort of variety show that has been appearing at (le) Poisson Rouge about every month since the spring. Last night was his last one of the year in NYC and he made it memorable with some great guests: Comedians Eugene Mirman and Mike Birbiglia, author Stephen Elliott and Steve Almond, and musicians Rhett Miller (Old 97s) and A.C. Brooklyn is getting a new concert venue called the Bell House. Owned by the same folks that run Union Hall and Floyd, this new joint is in Gowanus, will be at 149 7th Street between 2nd & 3rd Avenues.
The storefront features a comfortable 150 capacity lounge which will be open seven nights a week as a friendly neighborhood bar and gathering space featuring beer from independent and local breweries.
