My family loves burgers of all types – the guys like beef burgers while the girls prefer turkey or chicken. I’m always looking for a new way to spice up the classic fare so my interest was piqued by a segment on the Today show that demonstrated some techniques for giving burgers an Asian flair.

Instead of the traditional seasonings, soy sauce, garlic, ginger, brown sugar, green onions, black pepper and sesame seeds. The chef used ground beef but I’m planning to use it with my ground poultry as well. For condiments, she had carrots and cucumbers, kimchi and regular toppings like ketchup, mustard and mayonnaise (she added some hot sauce to it). Watch the segment:

Beef tenderloin is one of the best cuts of meat you can find (at least in my opinion) so I was interested in the Today show segment that made use of it. The chef seared the tenderloin in some olive oil with Poblano chilies and garlic stuffed inside of it. It was cool because he also demonstrated the proper technique for tying meat. Very useful!

After the meat was seared, he threw it in the oven and then stressed the importance of letting the meat rest for a few minutes before cutting it in order to keep it moist. It really did look delicious. Check out the video!

He threw some roasted red peppers, Feta cheese, garlic, pepperoncini peppers and some fresh herbs into a food processor and pulsed it a few times to blend the ingredients but keep some of the texture. He put it on a plate with grilled pita and it looked delicious!

They also grilled some onions, made a quick tzatziki sauce and showed some other dishes (they didn’t have time to explain all of them) and I swear my mouth was watering. Watch the segment!

My grandmother is from the south and there are some signature dishes that I really enjoy. One of those meals is potatoes gratin. They made the classic dish on the Today show, but with some modern touches including roasted red pepper and dried red chili. It sounds like it could be a nice alternative to the traditional recipe.

They also made a Caesar salad and, instead of adding chicken, they made some catfish croutons to add to the lettuce. They actually looked really good but I’m allergic to fish so I can’t try this recipe.

On the Today show, they made some delicious-looking buttermilk friend chicken. I don’t eat fried chicken very often but there are times when I really crave it and I think that this recipe looks incredible because I really love the flavor that buttermilk adds to food.

Almost everyone loves Italian food but many don’t know much about the fare beyond your typical pizza and spaghetti so it was great that the Today show demonstrated how to make some authentic Italian dishes.

One meal they prepared was cavetelli with eggs and bacon which looked like a mix between a carbonara and a frittata. For dessert, they made a bread parfait. The bread is socked in espresso coffee, chocolate and rum and is then layered in a dessert glass with whipped cream. It’s a great way to get rid of leftover bread. It was so quick and easy!

The Today show looked at 10 foods that are supposed to be “healthy” for us but really aren’t. While the label might send a certain message, all might not be as it seems. Here are the potential offenders:

Multigrain bread – don’t be fooled by the name. Always look for something that says 100% whole grain or whole wheat. Enriched flour might be something you want to avoid.

Reduced-fat peanut butter – regular peanut butter is possibly better because it’s heart healthy fats and the reduced-fat has more sugar.

Energy bars – read the labels because some of those bars contain more than 400 calories. Making your own trail mix is a better alternative.

Processed turkey – the sodium can be extremely high on deli meat.

Bran muffins – watch the portions! Some of those giant muffins can be very high in calories!

For more tips, watch the video below!

Alton Brown demonstrated the proper technique for making the perfect crêpe and if you’ve never tried to make them, you might really want to take notes. Crêpes are often described as being really thin pancakes and I guess that’s a reasonable enough comparison but one of my favorite things about them is that you can roll all sorts of fillings up inside of them.

They work for dessert, brunch or breakfast (or even as a tasty treat!) so you should definitely consider giving them a try. It might take a little practice to get them right but it’s totally worth it!

Paula Deen shared her tips for making a delicious orange coffee cake on the Today show with Al Roker. I love coffee cake (even though I don’t drink coffee) so it’s always nice to see a new take on this classic treat. There was a bit of a fiasco in the kitchen when a man was found hiding behind a counter but then things quickly got back on track.

Paula used canned biscuits in her recipe along with sugar, orange zest, nuts and cream cheese. It looked really simple to make! I would have never thought of making a cake this way!

Celebrity chef, Giada De Laurentiis, made some delicious looking meatballs on the Today show with Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb the other day and I definitely want to try to make these!

Giada’s ingredients list is pretty basic – bread crumbs, parsley, eggs, milk, ketchup, Romano cheese, salt & pepper and ground chicken. That’s it! They also looked easy to make. She used a melon baller to keep them uniform and to keep from having to get her hands dirty.
