Although J.K. Rowling‘s Pottermore announcement this morning was frustratingly vague, at least one fan claims to have the goods. J.K. Rowling’s Pottermore Announcement Is Kind of a Letdown
We were right! A few minutes ago, J.K. Rowling‘s big announcement hit the web (you can watch the video after the jump): Her new website Pottermore will be “an online reading experience unlike any other” which gives younger fans a safe digital space to discuss the series and the world, with Rowling herself popping in to share tidbits that didn’t make it into the books.
…And that’s about it. Aside from some nifty graphics in the video, there were no other details about the ins and outs of the site. I figured at the least we’d get a tutorial for using the forums, writing groups, or whatever facets make Pottermore a unique community. Internet Urban Legend: How the Whole “Faking Cancer on the Internet” Thing Started
Last week, Reddit users were enraged to discover that a poster known as Lucidending had lied about having cancer. In the forum’s AMA (Ask Me Anything) forum, Lucidending claimed to have only 51 hours to live; he planned to overdose via Oregon’s laws of assisted suicide. What followed was a weekend of intimate conversation in which Lucidending played by the AMA rules and shared details about his life, in the hopes of leaving some sort of legacy. One Night Stands: The Internet’s Perspective
SomethingAwful is my favorite website ever. Although it doesn’t compete with 4Chan or Reddit for extreme NSFW!! grossness, it’s by far the funniest of all those forum sites, and the users are generally smarter than your average goons. Hell, sometimes they are even nice to women (I know, white knight n00bs). So when a laaaaady goon recently asked about the general protocol of the “one night stand” and if they all do really have to end in the walk of shame, the responses were generally thought-provoking instead of trollish. Paula Abdul at the Emmy’s
Paula was looking pretty good as she arrived for the Primetime Emmy Awards. Hollywood’s Best has lots of photos (forum registration required) and comments from some forum members stating she was drunk.
