Video: New Funny Or Die Exclusive Introduces Us To Princess Ke$ha

Uh, you guys? We think Ke$ha might be a feminist icon. In her new Funny or Die video, she flips the mold of the unltra-girly Disney princess who lives in a castle with a team of cheery cartoon animals at her command. Ke$ha’s own animated critters include vultures, skunks, and a literal piece of poop — and her fairy godmother is an old drunk. We see potential for a full feature here. More »

Crushable Quotable: James Van Der Beek On Internet Immortality

Crushable Quotable: James Van Der Beek On Internet Immortality

James Van Der Beek: he is just a normal dude! With last week’s introduction to Funny or Die’s Van Der Meme videos (and subsequent website), James was able to take a not-even-that-popular Internet meme about himself and turn it into a viral hit. He’s the antithesis of Keanu Reeves, who refused to even acknowledge that Sad Keanu existed, or Winona Ryder, who doesn’t even have the Internet unless someone sends her to a world wide webpage. Update: ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ Did Not Steal A Funny Or Die Video, Has Never Stolen Anything

Update: 'Jimmy Kimmel Live' Did Not Steal A Funny Or Die Video, Has Never Stolen Anything

Yesterday, we reported the modern-day Prince and Pauper tale of a pair of similar Beaver parody videos: One, a humble Funny or Die web piece and the other a segment from ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live. Both intercut the trailer with chioce portions of Mel Gibson‘s infamous phone calls to Oksana Grigorieva. Our interview with the Funny or Die video’s creator led us to believe that his idea may have been thefted by Jimmy and co., but the show’ co-head writer, Gary Greenberg, cleared the rumor up:

“While it may seem implausible that more than one party could conceive such a groundbreaking idea simultaneously, that is the case. In fact, five of our nine writers pitched the identical idea. We have never stolen anything from anyone.”

Did Jimmy Kimmel Steal A Video From Funny Or Die?

Did Jimmy Kimmel Steal A Video From Funny Or Die?

Over the weekend, a video parodying the trailer for Mel Gibson’s new movie, Beaver, hit the web. On Monday, a very similar video aired on Jimmy Kimmel Live. The two vids, brilliant in their obviousness, intercut the trailer with Mel Gibson’s infamous phone calls to ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva.

The trailer on Kimmel wasn’t the exact same one but rather makes use of the phone call conceit. Of course it’s possible that Jimmy’s writers simply had the same idea — it is the logical joke, after all. However, the original video was on the front page of Funny or Die and heavily linked around the web. And here’s the kicker: On Monday, one of the video’s creators, Dan Samiljan, tweeted a link to the video at Jimmy Kimmel. Then, a day later, he was blocked from Jimmy’s account. Dan explained the situation to us: More »

Video: Funny Or Die Tackles Ke$ha's Dollar Sign

If there’s one question the world has for singer and fellow Spirit Hood enthusiast Ke$ha it’s probably “Um, do you need to come over and take a shower?” But if two questions are allowed, the second one is definitely “Grrrrl, why the heck do you spell your name like that?” A new Funny or Die video tackles that second issue and comes up with a pretty surprising answer to the history of the moneyed moniker. And it isn’t “To dominate SEO.” More »

‘Fred the Movie’ and 3 Other Web Shows That Made It to TV

'Fred the Movie' and 3 Other Web Shows That Made It to TV

I’m sorry, is this real life? I hate to ask, but when I hear about Fred– that odd-voiced YouTube elf of a child that somehow garners millions of views for its tween star – I don’t think “Wow, this would make SUCH a great film!” Yet here we are, with Nickelodeon turning Fred into a show for their network. And they’re not the first to gamble on a web series paying off. Get your own ideas, Hollywood! More »

Interview With The Folks Behind ‘Token,’ A New Funny Or Die Video Exclusive

Interview With The Folks Behind 'Token,' A New Funny Or Die Video Exclusive

It’s been a hilarious week in Funny or Die videos. First there was the new ep of Between Two Ferns with Bruce Willis, and today we get a short called Token starring and co-written by Kulap Vilaysack. We grabbed Kulap and her co-writer Kevin Seccia for a quick chat about the project.

Crushable: Can you guys talk about your past involvement with Funny or Die

Kulap: I’ve been in a dozen FOD videos, because the writers & producers are my friends from The Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre. Token is the first FOD video that I’m involved in on every level– the power has driven me MAD!!! More »

Funny or Die has Owl Movie Mania – We’ve been promising ourselves we’d see the owl movie every night for weeks, but somehow we still haven’t managed to get into those theater seats (also, we’re scared of bedbugs). But these guys? Much more dedicated to their owls. (Funny or Die)

Fashion Week Needs More Short, Hairy Guys – We know that comedian Brett Gelman isn’t really the new face of Calvin Klein, but this video is dead-on what we we imagine Terry Richardson doing when he’s alone in his apartment. (via FunnyOrDie)

Best Failed Prank Ever - Comic John Caparula got creative while making his girlfriend a sandwich, and her reaction was not quite what he expected. NSFW, unless you’ve got headphones on. (via Funny or Die)

Jewel ‘Pretends’ She Can’t Sing - Hey! Hey you guys remember Jewel?! Remember? “You Were Meant For Me?” “Who Will Save Your Soul?” Uh…all the other ones? Well, just in case the singer/poet hasn’t been on the forefront of your mind lately, her recent Funny Or Die video – in which she dresses up as a butch lesbian, goes to a karaoke bar to sing off-key to her own songs and then is like “PSYCH! I’m Jewel!” and everyone’s like “Who?” – should jog your memory. (FOD)

Chris Klein Proves To Be Viral Marketing Genius For Himself…Or Is He?

Chris Klein Proves To Be Viral Marketing Genius For Himself...Or Is He?

Well we called it, right? Chris Klein‘s bombing of the Mamma Mia audition that circulated the Internet last week turned out to be a hoax. Maybe? Today, FunnyOrDie “uncovered” the rest of Klein’s audition reel of current films, and of course they are played for maximum LOLs. Look, he wants to be in McGruber! And Avatar! He loves to talk about Jeff Goldblum and wants Bill Paxton to be his dad! So, do we buy that Klein was in on the joke, or is this an attempt to save face? More »

Video: Adam Scott, Lizzy Caplan, And Martin Starr In 'Mummy!'

If there is a silver lining to the fact that half the cast of Starz’s hysterical, underrated Party Down will be gone next season, it’s that at least we get comedy shorts like these, starring some of the main characters of the show in a faux-trailer for HBO’s newest ghoul obsession.

Happy April Fool’s Day! — To commemorate this silliest of all days, some of our favorite Web sites are playing pranks. Google has renamed itself “Topeka” and over at Funny or Die, Justin Bieber and his bangs have taken over, turning it into Bieber or Die.

Marion Cotillard’s Forehead Tittaes

Marion Cotillard's Forehead Tittaes

Marion Cotillard has a solution for all you career-minded ladies who are tired of men paying attention to your chest and not your eyes: Forehead Tittaes by Janae. Apparently they’re France’s best-kept secret. Just attach to your forehead, and they’ll redirect male gazes to the general direction of your eye area. Taraji P. Henson and Lesley Ann Warren agree: “Make them almost look you in the eyes.”

Video: Buzz Aldrin's "Rocket Experience"

Filling the role of “nice old dude cannon fodder” this season on Dancing With the Stars is Buzz Aldrin, who, we would like to reiterate, WALKED ON THE FREAKIN’ MOON. This is not Buzz’s first foray into the performing arts, however — Snoop Dogg produced a rap single for the former astronaut last year, no joke. Well, maybe a little bit of a joke — it was a video for Funny or Die.

Lindsay Lohan to Release 2nd FunnyOrDie Video

Back in April, Lindsay Lohan took the Internet by storm with her Funny or Die spoof eHarmony Profile. Well, it looks like Lindsay may be planning a new video! Or have shot it already? Here’s what Lindsay put on her Twitter:

“are you excited for Funny or Die with Lisa Kudrow and ME! be nice lol”

Lindsay was actually talking directly with PerezHilton on twitter, which is surprising considering how mean he is about her all the time! Anyway, a video with… More »
