The trailer for the Battleship movie hit the web last week, and while it looks better than one would expect, given that it’s a movie based on a board game which, at its most exciting, involves sticking a peg into a hole in a plastic ship, I’ll be honest with you: I’m a little baffled. How exactly do we get from “A…4″ to “OH GOD ALIENS!”? No idea. And honestly, if this is the direction Hollywood is going these days, I’m a little terrified to find out where this Candy Land movie I keep hearing about is going to go. Virgin Mobile Fest is Free This Year
Although not in New York, the Virgin Mobile Fest in Maryland is only a few hours away. And this year it’s free! Taking place on August 30, 2009, the festival will be at Merriweather Post Pavilion, one of my favorite venues anywhere (and also the namesake of Animal Collective’s last album). Regular free tickets are gone, but you can get free VIP tickets by volunteering. Find out how here. And here is the lineup:

All Points West Festival: Girl Talk
Definitely one of the highlights, Greg Gillis aka Girl Talk played (DJed?) an insane set with dozens of people dancing on stage, balloons, confetti, toilet paper, and beach balls flying. It was one huge dance party and let me tell you it was awesome. Incidentally, Girl Talk just added a show at Terminal 5 on November 15.

Girl Talk Does It Radiohead-Style
Mash-up artist extraordinaire Girl Talk will be releasing his latest album Feed the Animals online via a pay-what-you-wish website a la Radiohead’s In Rainbows. According to an interview with Greg Gillis aka Girl Talk, the album should be up “Wednesday or Thursday” and a physical CD and LP release will follow. All Points West Fest Has Initial Lineup
Coachella East aka All Points West has announced its initial lineup for its three-day festival taking place in Liberty Park Aug. 8-10.
Radiohead is headlining Friday and Saturday while Jack Johnson (ugh, I know) is on Sunday. The rest of the lineup so far is:
